Couldnt have a better cast. Now, let's hope all the star wattage adds up to a great Bond outing.

Phew! Hope you're right about Eon pushing Mendes for a bit more action I was beginning to worry that they were going to turn Bond into Le Carre's Smiley . Two different styles and one definitely not suited to the other, Mendes could have potentially killed the franchise if allowed to run with his ideas.

This cast is nothing short of phenomenal and is really stoking the fires of excitement. Coupled with them finally hiring a top notch director (considering the amount the films make I'm not sure why we haven't had more of those in charge of the Bond movies instead of the likes of Lee Tamahori and Marc Forster) I'm thinking this could be one of the best of all time. However - expectation is battered back to reality by the unfortunate fact that the phenomenally talentless Neil Purvis and Robert Wade are somehow still involved in the writing department (with those two I use the word writing in it's loosest possible sense). True - they got awards for Casino Royale - but the story wan't theirs as Fleming's brilliance shone through. Quantum was a mess and their Brosnan efforts were painfully embarassing. I'm almost starting to think they have dirt on Broccoli and Wilson because their continued employment is a complete mystery. Fortunately, John Logan and Patrick Marber are also involved in scripting duties so fingers crossed Wade and Purvis don't deliver another turkey now they don't have Fleming to guide them.

I'm all for rule breaking but Bond should NOT start getting all soul-searchy and dithery. If Mendes starts pissing about with this franchise and makes it all wimpy and dull then you might as well call it a day. Bond was nearly killed by over-blown action in Tomorrow Never Dies with that stupid motorcycle chase on that crap bogus BMW and left the story out to dry. Now there's talk of ditching action??? Can't they just tweak and nudge it a bit? Instead of ripping its guts out?! The cast looks brilliant though.
A long time back, bloke by the name of Spielberg expressed an interest in directing a Bond and never got his time with the bat - but then he went on to make some other adventure movie that was WAY better than 80s Bonds... The thing is, all this talk of getting big directors in is missing the point of what Eon have always believed. No director's name should be above the title. You can't have anyone in a Bond film bigger than Bond himself. It's the law. And you don't mess with the law.
