FYI, I know the issue was supposed to be on sale this morning but (surprise, surprise) Adobe's upload servers are buggered again. We're trying to sort it out this evening, if not then tomorrow. I'm actually not in tomorrow but my team of helper monkeys will make it happen or be viciously beaten to death upon my return.

How can this be a surprise for Adobe every month?!
I don't get it.

You should write a novel about the Empire Ipad magazine!

It is strange how other magazines get their issues up on time month after month. Was so supportive at first but that was before I discovered T3 and Project, both of which pee all over empire and manage to launch on time every month.

Time to beat those helper monkeys to their bloody demise I think! Ever since I got my new iPad a week ago I've been dying to subscribe to the iPad edition but wanted to try it out with one full issue first (I've seen the free demo issue). So when I see the new Empire on the newsagent's shelves it took superhuman willpower to NOT buy it. I ran home to download the iPad edition....2 days later I'm still waiting....aargh! Bet you're all off partying for the weekend now! :(

It's finally up. Adobe have had server problems on and off (in fact they're still not 100%) but we're now live.

I appreciate your frustration (mine is many times greater!) and your understanding (a few posts notwithstanding). Unfortunately all we can do is shout at Adobe as we have no direct control over them or their servers.

Thanks James, downloading now! Hoping for background download soon cause everytime my Ipad goes to sleep it stops downloading!

I've subscribed. How do I actually download the latest issue? It asks me to purchase it for £3.99? I've had the subscription confirmation email but can't actually read the issue!

Download stops at around 316MB, and I get a message that says "Error during download. Please resume your download later.".
When I try later I usually get a couple of megabytes more before it stops again. Anyone else having the same problem?

That happens from time to time. It's (surprise, surprise) an Adobe server issue. It'll resolve in time.

Yeah, sorry about that. We had to pull a video from an ad and swap with another one. If you update it should only update about 10mb or so, it won't redownload the whole thing.

Do you know when Canadians can get the iPad edition? At the moment I can't even find Empire in the app store.

Hi.

I've been trying to download the December issue for the past couple of days. The download reaches 318mb then hits an error and says to try again later. I've tried the old IT Crowd solution (switching my iPad off and on again), cancelling the download and starting again, I've tried restarting my broadband but no joy.

Any thoughts? I'd a bit irritating.

M

It's odd that that keeps happening. Download bugs are, sadly, a quirk of Adobe's servers but they usually sort themselves out in a couple of hours. I'm not sure what to suggest except keep trying. You could always reinstall the app but that's a bit drastic and you'd have to reinstall all your other issues as well.

Reinstalling the app seems to have done the trick. Thanks for that.

The issue keeps popping up with " a update is available". Hmm
Also is true background downloading forthcoming?

The update is just a minor tweak to one page, it's not necessary - though it shoudl only update a few MB, not the whole issue.

Background downloading is only available in that you can read and download together at the moment. Newsstand downloading in the background will hopefully kick in once Adobe introduce it (no ETA form them as yet).

I've said yes to the update a number of times, it doesn't do anything.

Thank you for the update regarding international availability of the iPad Edition. A digital-only subscription model will be awesome for readers in Canada ólooking forward to the announcement.

You'll need to wait a little for Canada I'm afraid. We're still not up in the US or Canada but should be in the first few months of 2012.

Giallo, please don't think I'm being sarcastic, this is only meant as helpful, have you tried turning off sleep on your iPad just for when you download an ebook if they stop downloading when it just goes to sleep? It could save you having to constantly touch the screen to keep it active.

I have mine set to 15 minutes sleep for this very reason. It is annoying though.
