Wasn't expecting Mason to show up at the end there and got a huge cheer from me after he was unceremoniously killed by Damon early last season. Another strong episode, the pacing continues to be fantastic and the creators are doing an excellent job of using their cast, even Matt who's probably one of the more supeflous characters got a moving storyline in these past few episodes with ghost vicki showing up. This show reminds me of early Heroes before it went downhill, both shows tend to get rid of a lot of guest stars to keep things fresh but the main difference is the core characters on TVD are better developed and far more likable than on Heroes. The likes of the Petrellis, Matt Parkman and HRG were too dull to focus on in the latter series and as such lost viewers, whereas on this show they continue to find new ways to make the dynamic between the main characters interesting and develop the likes of Caroline and Tyler into strong characters. I'd stake a claim to say this is one of the most underrated series on TV, granted I'm not expecting it to be considered for the emmys or golden globes but the pacing is terrific, the vampires are suitably nasty without going resorting to the gory excess of true blood, the story constantly moves and they manage to almost always hit the right emotional beats for the characters.
