Johnny English Reborn is a good film. It has a good story, Rowan Aktinson performance was solid and there were funny scenes. There are problems with the film though like for e.g. the start of the film just felt rushed and there are alot of scenes that are not really funny at all. This is definitely better then the first Johnny English film. I would recommend to go see this film.

I found this highly amusing, some of Atkinson's delivery - particularly his facial cues - are brilliant. And Anderson is still smoking.

Well,i like Johnny English, there,i said it!
This is more of the same and fans of the first film will love it,though i think the first was better.
Fans of Craigs Bond will hate this!

But isn't that a bit like saying the effects are better than Plan 9 From Outer Space?

Just like Bond has his credit cards and passport stripped away from him in "QoS" (1), so should your forum membership be stripped for that comment!

I refuse to let you derail a thread about the wonderful Johnny with ramblings about that other, boring spy franchise.

Without that other 'boring' spy franchise, you wouldn't have Johnny English surely!

You must atone for offending the king..

"Kiss the ring.."

"No!" she says..

"Kiss the bloody ring!"

Still..Johnny English wouldn't be here without Bond keeping spy things in the zeitgeist.

You mean Mr. Has-Bean?

We shouldn't derail the thread further though. My apologies!

Better than the first one - though the first one was pretty poor. It's funnier (though still not as funny as it thinks it is), and also has a much better plot.

6/10

I almost always agree with the reviews in Empire, but in this case I find it highly unfair. THis movie is all we have left to cherish now that the unfaithful got hold of James Bond and completely ruined it by comitting a complete franchise lobotomy followed by character harakiri.

Johnny ENglish has everything a James bond movie should have, played a tad straighter, and without the main character being a clown, this script could have been adapted to a Bond movie with little or few changes. The Car! The gadgets! The locations! Everything one misses about a good Bond movie. Yes, this script is more faithful to Bond movies than the two last real ones that unfortunately now feature a polish butcher for a lead and your average high octane plot downloaded from Instant Hollywood.

But, JE is not JB, he is JC. Yes, it is plain to see that what is going on here is people displaying the talent and understanding of mechanisms and character that could have revived Jaques Closseau. THey absolutely nail everything that was so great about the Pink Panther movies.Something that, non surprisingly, the bunch of talentless fools that sodomised that franchise missed. Just imagine what these scriptwriters could do with that franchise, and imagine Atkinson in a large moustache! It's just painful to know that Steve Martin and his talentless buffoons killed that franchise, just like the talentless morons that killed James Bond.

This movie, ins short, is as good as any Pink Panther, and thus should have 4 stars. Not least for the sheer audacity to try on a style that hasn't been around since Sellers died, and actually pulling it off!

I've always loved the first Johnny English. Atkinson's character and the brilliantly judged idiocy that accompanies it- always a winner in my book. I was quite looking forward to seeing this when it was announced, but a part of me was also a tad worried that it wouldn't live up to expectations. Well, it may not be as entertaining or as memorable as the original, but it's still funny, and it's still brilliantly watchable. However, the absence of Ben Miller's Bough is noticeable, and the (considerably less interesting) sidekick this time around can't really fill his boots. I also have my doubts about Anderson's performance, and the casting of Dominic Cooper as Agent 1. He does a good job, he just seems a little miscast. Aside from that, other issues are such as borrowing elements from other similarly-themed films, such as Austin Powers, Rush Hour 2 and even Casino Royale, but on the bright side, Reborn still has all the excitement, and the character of English is well and truly realized in this way overdue sequel.
