Tucker & Dale vs. Evil
The slasher movie turned up-side-down. That`s about the right to descrive this film.

A group of college kids go camping in the woods. On their way there they first "meet" two ultimate hillbillies: Tucker and Dale. From that moment on we get to see the normally so cliché slasher story from the point of view of the two titular hero`s. The college kids think that the two are the usual serial killers but the opposite is true.

It gives us a really entertaining comedy that gives a funny and original twist to a genre that couldn`t give us much original stuff over the last few years. The fact that the story is told from the point of view of the characters that are normally the bad guys gives a whole bunch of funny and almost slapstick-like situations.
That, combined with two guys who are basically too stupid to be true, makes sure that the almost 90 minutes are over before you know it and do make you wonder when the sequels and spin-off`s will arrive.

8,3/10

Tucker & Dale Vs Evil is essentially a single joke stretched out to fill an entire movie but its done very well. The main thing is that between the slapstick, the gore and the silliness the filmakers remember to make the audience care about Tucker & Dale. You actually feel sorry these guys and the predicament they find themselves in and you want to find out if and how they survive. The laughs are great and come thick and fast but its the characters who keep you watching to the end. Kudos to Alan Tudyk and Tyler Labine for that.

Oh and I caught it on iTunes, avoiding the issue of its limited cinema release. Bonus!

Basically I think Alan Tudyk can do no wrong (crazed conversational Alpha anyone?) So I decided to give it a go and was not disappointed. Laugh out loud, breathlessly funny in places, and surprisingly enough actually makes all of it believable.
Please let there be a sequel.

very fresh / original screenplay, and 2 great characters in Tucker and Dale

been following Alan Tudyk since his role in severely underated TV show "Firefly" and always enjoyed his excellent talent!

I read the review in Empire and got very excited about this film. I then waited for it to be released in my local cinema, and waited, and waited... Then on Monday I saw the DVD for sale in Morrisons! What happened? i didn;t buy it, hoping it might be on this week.
Anyway I've now watched the trailer on Lovefilm and am even more excited, though they haven't got it for rent just yet.
It can't possibly be as good as I'm hoping, but Alan Tudyk can do no wrong, even when playing Dodgeball against girl scouts.

This is a genuinely funny film, its a parodic take on the slasher genre, which has a habit of depicting hillbillys and red necks in a bad way.
Tucker and Dale turn cliches on its head, and the evil is the dumb attractive teens, one of whom is a fucking physco, that said when one of the teens goes all leatherface things go a little pearshaped but up until then this was prettty damn good, the story is this, Tucker and Dale two loveavle rednecks and best mates go on holiday to their holiday home in the woods a group of teens camping nearby though mistake them for redneck killers, the situation is made worse when one of the teens knocks themselves out and Tucker and Dale take her home to nurse her back too health, Bad move.

I've seen this now, and it was every bit as good as I hoped. Some absolutely great lines, especially Alan Tudyk's comeback to the smell of evil line.

I laughed for ages even after the film had finished, the finale is a bit sloppy, but other than that it's wonderful entertainment.

My own review is below since Empire could barely muster much up for it.

Tucker & Dale vs Evil (2010)

Bloody and Bloody Hilarious.

Tucker & Dale vs Evil is directed by Eli Craig who also co-writes the screenplay with Morgan Jurgenson. It stars Alan Tudyk, Tyler Labine, Katrina Bowden and Jesse Moss. Music is by Michael Shields and Andrew Kaiser and cinematography by David Geddes. Plot has Tudyk and Labine as two harmless mountain/country men who head to their newly acquired vacation home in the woods to fix it up and get some R & R. But after a misunderstanding at a roadside store with some college kids, who think Tucker & Dale are hillbilly psychopaths, the wheels are set in motion for a bloody battle for survivalÖ.but who for?!

In 1996 Scream came slashing forward to inject witty life into a fading horror genre, with freshness and inventive splinters from the slasher formula, Wes Cravenís movie rocked the horror faithfulís world. Tucker & Dale vs Evil will not have the same impact, itís limited release and low budget worth ensured it never had a chance of being a big thing, but still itís the freshest horror/comedy to have come out since Scream made its bloody bow at the box office.

Itís such a simple idea at the core, you have to wonder why it wasnít thought of before? Craig and Jurgenson have flipped the age old Hillbilly Killers vs Preppy College Kids idea on its head, and in the process smothered it gleefully with dark humour, laugh out loud moments and inventive deaths. Thereís also some social comedy nestled nicely in the narrative, big points about first impressions and ideas of stereotypes, and hell yes! Thereís even an opposites attract arc, though that admittedly helps to bog the picture down as the central joke premise runs out of steam towards the end. In fact were it not for a relatively sloppy finale, this would surely be falling into sub-genre classic status. Thankfully all that comes before it is so full of vim and vigour, blood and bluff and fun and frolics, itís not hard to forgive the debut director his one misstep.

The neat trick is having the film unfold from the Hillbillies viewpoint, where the carnage that unspools gets increasingly difficult for them to explain, this in spite of their innocence. Each death is logical to the college kids who go on the attack when one of their number, they think, is kidnapped. And itís logical to us the audience as well, were it not for us being privy to these wonderfully funny sequence of events, we too would have them hung, drawn and quartered after a guilty verdict was reached in 10 seconds. This is the ultimate horror/comedy flip-flop movie. So many funny sequences light up the picture, with a chainsaw scene one of the finest moments to have ever graced a horror comedy movie, but the dialogue, too, is not found wanting in the fun and charming department. Cast are on top form, with Tudyk & Labine a most agreeable double act, where their comedy timing is impeccable, and Bowden & Moss are more than just pretty faces.

Craig (Sally Fieldís son) has started with a bang, if he can top this then he is a name to really get excited about. If he canít top it? Well he will at least always have one of the best horror comedy movies on his CV. Yes itís that good, fans of Scream, Severance, Shaun of the Dead and Zombieland should seek it out post haste. 8.5/10

Rented this last night and thought it was hilarious. It was just a shame I'd seen all the deaths in the trailer. Damn you marketing people.

Watched this recently, having seen no clips and very little info about it.
Pretty good actually, an original attempt at the comedy horror that is lifted a lot by both leads' performances. Ok, the joke does get a little thin towards the end but still worth a watch on a Friday night, and there are a couple of hilarious moments.

Loved it, laughed the whole way through. It's a wonderful set-up that pays off brilliantly. Tudyk and Labine are hilarious together, and who can't love Katrina Bowden?

What a thoroughly entertaining movie! Reminded me on more than one occasion of both Evil Dead 2 and Tremors, so can't be a bad thing. The deaths are hilarious (the woodchipper sequence is all kinds of unexpected brilliance), there's a considered amount of gore and the two leads are cult heroes in the making. A quite brilliant reversal on the genre and proof that good horror generally features more comedy and less torture porn.

Just got round to watching this after having the DVD lying around for months - what an unexpected gem. Came dangerously close to pissing myself laughing during several scenes - the chainsaw/bee-sting bit and the confrontation with the cop ('we've had a doozy of a day!')particular standouts. And despite all the death and gore, it's a surprisingly warm and kind-hearted flick with some lovely, likeable performances.
One of the rare occasions when I would actually love to see a sequel - having mused thoroughly on it for a good two minutes, I reckon Tucker and Dale Vs The Mafia would be a treat.

Liked Tucker and Dale so much I decided to write a longer review about it....

Tucker (Alan Tudyk) and Dale (Tyler Labine), two affable yet clueless hill-billies, are on holiday looking to do some fishing and drink some beers whilst patching up Tucker's new vacation home (which looks eerily like the log cabin from The Evil Dead). But they're not alone in the woods. Some frat-brats have also decided to pitch up a tent and party. One skinny dipping session later, where Tucker and Dale save one of the hapless college girls from drowning, turns into a simple misunderstanding where the remaining bunch of students presume their friend kidnapped and likely to suffer unspeakable evil at the hands of the duo. Fearing for their lives that Tucker and Dale will come after them next, the remaining frat-brats decide to strike first blood by harassing and hounding the care-free hill-billies for the rest of the night.

Tucker and Dale vs Evil is a welcome return to the horror ethos of old. Gone is the stale, tedious torture porn of the last decade, replaced by a homage to what once made the genre great; lots of gore, balanced by entertaining comedy moments and featuring an intelligent satirical streak that belies the lead duo's relative stupidity. Unsurprisingly, the reversal of norms is what initially makes Tucker and Dale a compelling watch. Here the usual butt-fucking Brady bunch of backwards, inbred, deep-south archetypes are a warm, friendly duo that unfortunately look like they might be a couple of unpleasant psychos. The college gang are typical fresh-faced smart-asses, but with deep-rooted prejudices and at least one psycho nut-job amongst them. That the frat goofs seemingly accept everything observed at face value is where much of the initial farce derives; 'hey, we've got your friend' calls a friendly Dale once they've pulled her from out of the lake, only to be met with cries of terror.

With the set-up complete, the film just gets on with the lovingly crafted punch-lines; dispatching the incompetent students via hilarious accidental deaths that befit their mis-reading of situations. A sequence with a wood-chipper is not exactly unexpected but still reaches the echelons of horror-comedy genius (thanks mainly to Tudyk's brilliant reaction). This is almost bettered by a chainsaw sequence involving Tucker and a horde of restless bees that will have you chuckling away like a gibbon. Proof that someone running at you screaming with a chainsaw in hand doesn't necessarily mean they're attempting to kill you. And any film that has the blonde bird with the massive norks splashed with gore in between the mayhem for simple chuckles is always onto a winner.

Tudyk and Labine, as needs be for the titular leads, are excellent throughout, providing Tucker and Dale with banter and warmth reminiscent of Val and Earl in Tremors. They're incidental characteristic traits are delightful, from Tucker pouring beer onto his ever growing list of injuries for medicinal purposes to Dale's photographic memory being of little use to his erstwhile social awkwardness. Most of the laughs are generated by the twosome, be it their own interpretation of the bizarre circumstances happening around them ('suicide pact') to their explanation with the local law enforcement about the host of dead bodies littered all over their property ('Hidy ho officer, we've had a doozy of a day'). Without such an endearing partnership, Tucker and Dale would easily be a less engaging watch. The students are also much more spunky and memorable than the usual brand of college personas that you almost feel sorry for their ineptitude. Jesse Moss is particularly excellent as the slightly unhinged Chad who leads the mayhem against poor old T&D, whilst Katrina Bowden is rather plucky as the damsel in distress.

Parodies are a tough concept to deliver, yet Tucker and Dale succeeds largely on the underplaying of the situation. It's less nudge, nudge, wink, wink, look how clever we are (i.e. it's not unpalatable shit like Scary Movie), instead opting for a more seamless transition into routine horror, but one that tells convention to ever so slightly do one (kind of like Bubba Ho-Tep). Sure, the plot loses its way in the last third - the appearance of an improbable newspaper cutting from 20 years previously positing a big revelation is incredibly hackneyed - and the 'don't judge a book by its cover' platitudes are as obvious as Wayne Rooney sporting new hair follicles. But at only 90 minutes long these do little to undermine the carnage and laugh riot that has already preceded. Tension, chainsaws, laughs and bucket-loads of gore, but not how you quite expect it, Tucker and Dale vs Evil is a unique entry into the genre. It also happens to be rather wonderful.

Overall - A rare gem of a movie. Tucker and Dale are cult characters in the making; sequel please!

Mixing bloody horror with smart satire and good laughs, this low-budget hor-com hits almost every right note to become a cult classic and a good 90 minute break from reality.

Take note, everyone. Tucker and Dale vs. Evil and The Cabin In The Woods are two of the sharpest horror-comedies of recent years. The reason? They completely understand the genre they are poking fun at, and the result is less a parody and more a lovingly crafted tribute. Tucker and Dale vs. Evil focuses more on the comedy than TCITW, and in doing so narrows its' scope. This isn't a bad thing, however, as the humour is brilliantly on-point and the plethora of allusions to horror movies will keep fans of the genre busy. The idea itself is wonderfully simple, but the two lovable hillbillies at the centre of all the commotion steal the show, with the script being a close second. Anyone who has an aesthetic appreciation for horror cinema and enjoys a good chuckle will find a large amount to love about Tucker and Dale vs. Evil.
