It appears that with all the hype that surounded Skyrim, people had little time for this effort. Personally, I have not played a decent RPG since Fallout 3 (I was thoroughly underwhelmed by New Vegas and Skyrim really isn't my thing), but Dead Island is an exciting, deliriously violent game that deserves some attention as one of the mst purely fun RPG's to have emerged for a long time. The attention to detail, particularly in landscapes, is excellent, and the exploration is always fun and rewarding. Character models are passable, but not amazing, as is the respawn system, which sometimes inexplicably drops you somewhere you haven't yet discovered. I encountered a few occasions when textures took a while to load, and other times when characters would become stuck in the scenery, or blocked by other characters. However, these kind of glitches are part and parcel of a game like this, as there's only so many things developers can do to correct glitches. Gameplay-wise, Dead Island is a balanced delight; levelling up is simple but challenging, the weapon mod system is decent, and combat is always brilliant, with a bazillion weapons to discover and stove zombie heads in with. It may not be the most accomplished, or most polished, game on the market, but it certainly is a game worth playing, and I thoroughly enjoyed every second.
