Just plain no. Can the public boycot until creative people make original movies again? They seem to think no one remembers all of the originals. They were made in the 80's (some in the early 90's) not the 20's, and families have some of them in their homes. Remake some obscure thing that may have just needed better writing during the strikes back in the day. Not every single "popular film" or "sleeper hit". Ugh

Can't agree more. No, no, no, no, no, no, no! Why is it studio execs, who by their very definition, are supposed to know about movies, keep trying to churn out shit?? As a newly edited (and devalued) Vader would say: Nooooo!

Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Johnny Utah and Chris Hemsworth as Bodhi? Don't know who could play Pappas though... need to give that some thought (and no, Nicholas Cage NEVER crossed my mind).

why does no-one acknowledge that the first fast and furious (diesel\walker version) was a flat out remake of point break with cars instead of surf boards? now they're citing f+f as inspiration? holy shit...

If you're citing Fast & Furious as inspiration and NOT the original Point Break then you know there are problems!!!!!! This is the worst idea since The Crow remake..............oh hold on that was only a couple of months ago!!! This news sucks!!!

Seriously, we all know what this is going to be: a clichéd, flat copy of the brilliant original, further watered down with a teeny friendly PG-13 rating. This will not work. Mark my words.

Point break still holds up today, a perfect action movie. Let them make a sequel and fuck that up instead.

If this is a remake, then whoever is devising this idea can f*ck right off!!

But if it's a sequel, then there's always the possibility of it being decent. Don't get me wrong here, the vast majority of sequels churned out 20yrs after the classic original are normally sh!te e.g. Blues Brothers 2000. But just occassionally we're treated to a sequel in the vein of The Color Of Money.

Obviously there are key ingredients required to produce a sequel of this calibre - an extremely good Director (like Scorcese), an extremely good support cast (like Cruise in the 80's) and a continuation of the character in his elder days (like Paul Newman as 'Fast' Eddie Felson) but I see this being rather difficult due to the sad death of Swayze. Was Johnny Utah's character strong enough to make audiences pay to see what he's up to in his 40's? Or is the idea of a Point Break film without Bodhi completely preposterous? Time will tell.....

It goes to show the good general taste of the Empire forum that the feeling is unanimous here twofold, the original Point Break is an action classic and the mooted remake should be scorned before being given a chance.
1991, the action scenes still stand up because of the fantastic direction by Kathryn Bigelow...leave it alone!

... it was referred to as 'Point Break with cars'. Am I the only one who remembers this? How the f*ck does Point Break get any better by referencing a movie that was a knock-off of the original anyway?! It's like a photocopy of a photocopy.

Gonna be shit. We all know it. Probably star Shia Lebouef and Matthew McConaughey with the obligatory stunt cameo of Keanu Reeves looking embarressed to be there. Did Tron Legacy teach us nothing? Leave well alone. Make something original!

All I'll say is NO!! This is getting ridiculous now! How many years has it been since someone last had an original idea in hollywood?? Are we (movie lovers that is) being punished for something? I'm going to go sit in the corner and quietly weep.....

FFS. Enough already. Make some original films. Otherwise in 20 years time we'll just be making reboots of reboots of reboots. When are we going to get a reboot of Inception. Next month, I expect.

This is getting ridiculous. I hope this burns in development hell along with all the other remake dross!!
I watched PB recently and its still a classic (keanu's acting aside) and doesn't need a reboot.
Instead of remaking everything all the time why not just re-release it. It works for Star Wars!!!

They should only remake Point Break if they have the actor with The Worst Australian Accent In Movie History (sounds like Dick Van Dyke doing Cockney) playing the cop on the beach at the end. They didn't wait long for Swayze's corpse to go cold before they decided to reheat his greatest hits.

Seeing as I never liked the original I'd be happy for this never to happen...

Same goes for Dirty Dancing, Ghost or almost anything else Patrick Swayze was in; lets face it the guy was in some crap really, with the odd exception.

It'll work if they cast Pegg and Frost.
