ORIGINAL: Gram123 Is the City of Men film any cop? I have the series on DVD, and it's fine, watchable, but obviously some way short of City of God. How does this film compare to either? I haven't watched it yet, i'm not expecting City Of God levels of awesomeness but the series was ok so thought i'd give it a go. I actually enjoyed it more than I was expecting. I rented it thinking it wouldn't be worth a purchase, but with hindsight I should have just bought it seeing as it's all of £2.99 on hmv.com / amazon.co.uk. Don't go in expecting City of God. It's a little different and much less gritty. The plot I believe is based on the series (which I haven't seen), which itself is not remotely based on City of God. The main character is played by the same actor as li'l dice in City of God... albeit older... and not playing the same character. Overall the acting is good, the plot a little more sentimental and relationship based with the favelas & crime as a backdrop rather than vice versa. It's nicely filmed, although a little more polished. Definately worth a watch; just let the beautiful cinematography and decent sound track wash over you and the character development and plot sufficiently entertain you, all in all an enjoyable watch. City of god.... 10/10 City of Men....8/10 Incidentally, the city of men series available on DVD in the UK (R2) is only half of the whole series (I think the latter 2 seasons, totalling 270 mins): In the US the full series is available (4 seasons, 19 episodes on 3 discs): Does anyone know if the whole lot is available on a R2 release?
