Found a HKL "Epic Action" triple movie set on eBay earlier this week and won it for under a tenner - Wing Chun/Tai Chi Boxer/Iron Monkey - no idea about those last two (wanted the first one) but probably watchable.

Of those, I have Wing Chun and Iron Monkey.
Wing Chun is alright, not quite as good as I hoped, but better than some other Michelle Yeoh vehicles. The plot's daft, and there's some very silly stuff, but it's good fun. There are some decent fight scenes (though little actual Wing Chun), particularly the final fight between Michelle Yeoh and Norman Chu, and there's a nice scene with Yeoh's character stopping a guy from damaging a tray of bean curd using kung fu techniques. I kinda like Kingdom Yuen, too, and there's a cameo from Cheng Pei-Pei.

Iron Monkey is all kinds of awesome. If you don't know anything about it, you're in for a treat. It's a great wuxia film, so expect to see people running across rooftops in a Crouching Tiger style. Yu Rongguang is great, and the young Angie Tsang is impressive playing the (male) role of Wong Fei Hung.

I haven't seen Tai Chi Boxer. All I can tell you is it's completely unrelated to Tai Chi Master, though it still gets a fairly decent rating on IMDb.

A Better Tomorrow arrived with a tyre track on the envelope, a massive dent in the tin case and split in two. Somehow the discs were unharmed.

Really nice thing to wake up too.

Grabbed a copy of The Ngihtmare Detective after missing it at the Leeds International Film Festival a while back. It was alright, although there wasn't much imagination in it like I thought there would be..

Top film

Glad to hear a positive reaction to it!
There're a few other Miike films I'd still like to get, namely Fudoh, Graveyard of Honour, Crows Zero 2 and The Man in White plus maybes Big Bang Love and Blues Harp.
Oh, just found the old Miike thread, where I say pretty much the same thing....
http://www.empireonline.com/forum/tm.asp?m=1855319&mpage=1&key=miike&NID=0#2495347

My latest purchase is:

Which is about £4 cheaper on Amazon than it is anywhere else.

Breathless - Been interested in getting this for a while, and a Maccy Ds voucher knocked the price down a tad!

Fulltime Killer and Breaking News - these 2 Johnnie To films were supposed to be getting re-released in a boxset, but the due date has now long passed and the pre-order price for it was more than the prices of the individual DVDs anyway, so I've gone for seperates. Another Maccy D's voucher en-cheapened them, too!

A Bittersweet Life - I previously owned this and sold it when Tartan announced they were going to release the Director's Cut, with more extras. Although artwork appeared, the DC DVD didn't, and then Tartan went under. Although they've now returned as Tartan Palisades, it doesn't look like the DC will be making an appearance any time soon (if ever), and this was el cheapo, so I figured now's as good a time as any to re-buy.

These have arrived, the 2-discer of Breathless is in a slipcase, and has a wee booklet with a word about the edition - it's limited to just 2,000 copies (though they don't shout about the fact anywhere on the cover) - plus some hellos from the two stars.

Also, it's upgrade time...
I sold these R2s:

Which just about covered the cost of this R1 set:

Aside from the 3 films coming in a cardboard box, the only difference is that the R1s have Tom Mes commentaries.

When I saw this originally, it was on the UK R2 rental. Since then, it seems to have disappeared / gone OOP / never existed in most online stores.
I almost went for the Spanish release, which is anamorphic and has a 13 min making of doc. In the end, I took the cheapo option and went for this unneccesarily re-titled R1 release, the only negatives being it's non-anamorphic and the extras are about half the already paltry length.

As it caught my eye, whilst checking out El Aura, has anyone seen another film which stars Ricardo Darín, by the title of El Secreto De Sus Ojos (The Secret in Their Eyes), and if so, is it any cop?
