not that version, no. its cut to shreds by the BBFC. the films a stunning piece thats often simply taken for its gore, but it a very good and pretty substantial film at heart. 'story of ricky' is probably more violent and gorey, though its reputation is that its got shit acting and story, and only the violence / gore to offer. worth seeing, without a doubt, both of them - in their complete form. funny enough, the 'ricky' uk disc is probably the best one - and its untouched by the BBFC too.

The full PAL version runs for 123.26 minutes, and is only available from The Netherlands or Scandanavia.  All other European countries use the Premier Asia edition which is 3min15sec shorter which doesn't sound like much, but there's 34 cuts during that time.  Only other 2 uncut editions worldwide are the Japanese original (no English subs) or R1 unrated (there is also an R-Rated cut version so be careful - the R1 transfer for both versions is shite anyway).  There is also an R3HK version which cuts almost quarter of an hour and is worth watching for comedy purposes only.

exactly. the picture shown is the UK disc = cut. and a waste of time, not just money. dutch 2 disc is 'where its at', as they say.

To be fair on Bey, the commentary track was of the uncut version, which is why it jumps about a bit occasionally...
Most of the cuts are shortenings of existing scenes,  with almost every violent scene being trimmed to one extent or another, with the biggest edits being the interrogation of Ryu Long's girlfriend (which includes the infamous nipple-slicing, which R2 peeps can see as part of the extras on the Ichi anime DVD, somehow OK as far as the BBFC is concerned here) and her death at the hands (or rather, feet) of Kaneko.

shouldnt really trust folk so easily - theres always the bbfc.co.uk site to check the state of a UK disc. pretty much always avoid UK stuff, out of habit of knowing that it's hard to tell the state of a film even if the BBFC did cut it themselves - cos companies can pre-cut films themselves... anyway, theres plenty of online information about these things which takes minutes to access, and it avoids disappointment. its a hard lesson, but the best thing to use your internet access for is to do your own research, at least then your knowledge grows rather than always dependingh on other peoples.

not trying to lecture, simply advice in case its of any use...

Am I allowed to post non-Asian DVD purchases here

Just bought - from the classics:

The Happy Guys - the first Soviet musical comedy

Circus - worth a watch just for the propaganda value, and actually a good film even without it.

And from the more modern films - bang up to date:

Yes, it's out on region 5 DVD (without English subtitles this time, my cynical side wonders if Fox are afraid for their revenues), and you guys haven't even had a chance to see it at the pictures yet - Day Watch (Night Watch part 2).  The absolute champion of the Russian box office, with a just in cinemas take of over 32.5 million dollars, some great acting, effects are pretty good, and lots of subtle, clever humour and not so subtle or clever product placement.  You can't have everything!

I could have bought the 5-disc TV Boxset of his while I was in Kyoto, but bottled it (due to no subs) and had a Tadanobu Asano splurge instead.  Although I did buy Picnic (which is ace BTW) amongst it all.
