Even if Ridley was making a direct sequel how would it make the original film any less good?

I will never understand this A SEQUEL/REMAKE WILL RUIN THE ORIGINAL HOW COULD THEY DO THIS crap.

I think it's kinda 'diluting/compromising the brand' idea that gets people het up.
I have to admit I'm torn, is this amazing news or a terrible idea?

...that this is the second alien film prequel that Scott talked about? After all, Bladerunner and Alien are all based in the same universe courtesy of Waylan Yutani. Is Prometheus one part of a new story and this Bladerunner a film a second part. All sounds like a far more exciting idea than anything anyone else has come up with.

I dont remember Weyland Yutani being mentioned in Alien.

For fuck's sake - stop crying, people. Blade Runner is still Blade Runner no matter what. They could get Michael Bay to direct a sequel starring Jason Statham and it still wouldn't take away from the brilliance of the original.
As it is, a film exploring the same universe by (possibly) the same director is surely something to be optimistic (or at least open-minded) about?
Even if it's fucking shite, what harm will it do?

I'm nervous, I'm very nervous - ten year sequel maybe but it's nearly been thirty years people, Ford's Deckard has to be out of the idea so I'm thinking prequel like how the androids escaped. If any bright young thing take over like Shia then I'm already hearing the death knell to a beloved, beloved film!!

Hey everyone I'm BAAAAAACK!
