Very cool, but any and all excitement i have (as it's one of my favourite books) will instantly die the moment they announce it's going to be one film.

Those films were watchable as films, but terrible adaptations of books. The writer didn't know what to take out and what to leave in, and they just came across like he was ticking the boxes on each one. I won't be looking forward to him dealing with a book like The Stand. I'll stick with the TV series.

Come on, they're getting a friggin' Harry Potter director for Stephen King's The Stand? Just looked at the guy's filmography and there's nothing there that even hints he's the right choice.

I still don't think The Stand would work as a feature film, perhaps another mini-series would work

Dunno. The guy did the TV version of State of Play before doing HP. He might be OK for it. Besides, it's frikkin' Stephen King we're talking about here. It's hardly high art...

Nothing wrong with a bit of King! I doubt this will work as a movie though. It's meant to be a trilogy but even so I think a mini series would suit it better. Big budget, serious talent behind it etc.

There seem to have been a few 'wannnabe' Stands already, post apocalyplse is no longer something new (The Road, Walking Dead, Falling Skies, etc.) but done well with the right cast with the right chemistry it could be the best of the lot. For some reason I think @wilw should be a part of that crew...

This might work as a two part film loved the 1994 mini series. Off topic does any one know about the IT remake which is going on?.

Not even the book adaptation angle?

What, not even the many brilliant, serious, weighty dramas he's made? Dunno how much of his TV work you've seen but I'd suggest watching the likes of State Of Play, The Sins, The Young Visitors and Sex Traffic before judging him - I'd choose a director who can handle difficult, adult material over the usual horror hacks who fuck up King adaptations in a heartbeat.
And I think he's more than proven he can do the fantastical too.

It's the usual anti-Harry Potter snobbery from those who have probably haven't even watched any of them.

So basically none of the ones that Yates did?

What I meant was II gave the series a chance, 3,5 movies is nearly 7 hours of my time.

That's fair enough, the first two are enough to make anyone give up on the series as a whole..

But the jump in quality between the first two and the ones that Yates did is huge, however.

Agreed. Having seen them all, the more I think about it, the better Yates seems suited to the job.

But none of them were directed by David Yates, and he's the one you're criticising.

I always thought that the stories to order of the phoenix and half blood prince were a bit naff so when thinking of Yates as a director I was like "he's no good" but re-watching all the films they're actually really well directed. I'm looking forward to seeing his next project, i'd rather it would have been an adaptation of the Fables comic book series but I'm interested in how he tackles horror with The Stand.
