Solid performance so far from England, though I wish Gerrard played it basic on occasions.

Looking like an England vs. Ireland WC final in Rio. Both teams dominating and looking unplayable right now

Special mention to Welbeck who is so,so important both offensively and defensively.

I don't know what they do at half time, but they are always shite immediately after the break.

What sport are James Milner, Steven Gerrard and Danny Welbeck playing tonight then, because it's not fucking football?

I don't think they've been the worst offenders at all. Lescott has been close to calamitous at times, and I don't recall Carrick doing anything in this game to the point where England have almost been playing with 10 men for half the game.

Decent first half but this is the worst we've played for some time and that's saying something! Playing a 4-3-3 with your wide-men being used for primarily defensive reasons is not a good thing, Milner hoofs it towards Rooney most of the time and Rooney can't do shit with those balls. Everyone seems to have gone missing...

Yeah I was just about to add Lescott to the list, that cross which was at head height missed first by Johnson and then Gerrard and then glided straight into the path of the wide-open midfielder on the edge of the D by Lescott was exemplary. Rooney has dropped as deep as the Titanic again to try and pick up the scraps and if Montenegro don't get back into this I'll be amazed.

Worst. Goal. Ever. But it was inevitable the way England have failed to get into the game this half. Quite why Roy hasn't made changes is beyond me.

Roy needs to slap each and every one of the players at full time. Maybe not Rooney though, he's been trying.

Was always going to be a corner wasn't it? Line of statues, not one of them went to meet the ball and no-one picked up the runner, Smalling looks way out of his depth at the moment as well if you ask me. Our defending of set-pieces has been fucking pitiful.

Baines really should be first choice left-back from now on.

Trapp's masterplan: Bring off Shane Long - our most dangerous player - on the 82th minute and bring on Paul Green to play on the right wing.

If he were manager of the England team he would be eviscerated for that.

Didn't bother to use his final sub to try and break up Austria play.

Wes Hoolahan - a player who can keep the ball - kept on the bench.

We played very well for 60 minutes and were absolutely dire for the first and last 15 minutes.

Fo sho. Hasn't he created the most chances out of any player in Europe? Sure I read that somewhere, Cole is still good but he's not at his best and Baines has been better for a while.

Trapp's post match interview is even more incomprehensible than his subs.

Not entirely sure which games the commentators were watching in either half.

I didn't think we retained possession that well and gave it away too easily too often. Most regular culprit was Gerrard who seemed to be trying to be Piro.

I did like the formation with Rooney upfront on his own and with the right players in I think it should be the way to go.
Welbeck did the unfashionable things well, but I don't think he's at international level just yet. Fine to come off the bench but to be honest we shouldn't be hammering any of the kids here, the problem is the 25 + year olds aren't good enough to be ahead of them.
Plus I think Roy should have been making a change from 55 minutes when it was clear we had lost the momentum. If that isn't a time when you bring on someone like Lampard who has bags of experience and composure I don't know why you take him.

There is also a very valid point that England should have been home and dry by half time, with or without the penalty (which should have been given).

Have to say I think it's really good of the Scottish team to be knocked out so early so the Scottish Fans can get first bookings for Holidays during Summer 2014

I'd agree with most of this. The number of people I've seen online slating Cleverly, Smalling and Welbeck (and Milner, natch) while giving Cole, Gerrard and even Lescott a free pass is disheartening.

They play for Manchester United what do you expect. Its second nature for non-United fans to be overly critical of them.

Gerrard was worse..yet again.

I thought everyone played well in the first half including Carrick, but to give credit to Montenegro they played really well in the second half.
They went far more direct.Played three at the back and really went for it.I think Tactically Hodgson was found out and made his subs far to late in the game, though even then I still thought we could nick a goal at the death.

Generally Englands biggest mistake was not to score a second when we were playing positive and ,at times, attractive football, but C'est la vie!

We had as much chance of going to Brazil next year as San Marino do tbf. Mind you your lot wouldn't be doing that much better in our group the way you guys are playing just now so I wouldn't be too cocky!
