Where's his eagle, you say?

Man, where you been?!!!!!!

We discussed that months back.

He has no eagle. Well no proper sized eagle pad nor other shoulder pad. It's been reduced.

Yes, it makes him look wimpy but that's change for you. Most of the time change sucks!

the normal cover is well better than the suscribers cover i got! damn

Really? I was quite impressed when I picked up my copy that arrived through my door this afternoon, then I saw the ordinary cover and breathed a big sigh of relief! Far prefer the subs cover- plus it seems to make the helmet look a little more in proportion with Urban's bonce, although that could just be me...

Close up of the uniform:

http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/5356/empiredredd01.jpg

And compared to the original comic version:

http://img855.imageshack.us/img855/6034/dreddvsdredduniform1.jpg

Talk about butchering the look. Doesn't even look the same character, well, apart from the helmet.

A direct translation of that uniform would look stupid in a film. It would get laughed off the screens.

I think Dredd looks decent however Bats and Spidey are badly photoshopped in, looks like a last minute rush job. My bet is they planned a purely Dredd based cover, then the accountants came on board at the last minute and said "this won't sell without Batman" or something to that effect. Hence the recycled image from TDK and a crap Spidey pic pasted onto the sides.

This isn't funny:

That would work in a film. I think your point doesn't stand up to scrutiny. Looks a perfectly fine version of the uniform and not silly.

Also the 1995 Dredd film stayed faithful to that look and what happened ?, why would the film makers want to replicate something that was a complete failure, on nearly every level, then to be certainly accused of being unoriginal.
The iconic imagery of the look of the character has been kept with the helmet and In the context of the direction they are taking with this movie Rgirvan44 is absolutely right if it was a direct translation it would get laughed of the screens.

Why are people defending this watered down look when there's this

Okay. Here it is again:

So what are people saying? It's not possible to do a proper uniform. Well it is. You just saw it.

What is wrong with that?

You're are the one that is wrong. It will work. It's pig ignorance to dismiss that look and say it's silly. Shot well and it will look good.

I can't believe fans of Dredd are so dismissive of that look.

Cause we have a thread dedicated to the Eastenders character called Minty, and would love to highlight these videos if he is indeed named after everyone's favoruite East End rouge.

And honestly - looking at the longer film trailer for that fan film...wheres the humour? Dredd is suppose to be funny!

Seriously I have no idea if your taking the piss or not, but nobody is saying it can't be done, the problem you have is that what you are showing us has quite clearly, been done before.

I got the subscribers issue today (the cover is freakin epic FYI, much better than this cover that looks like something a GCSE media studies student might make) and if you actually look inside it, there are some pics of Judge Dredd and he looks BADASS. Ok, so I've never read any of the comics or whatever, but just don't mock it at the first hurdle. I mean, you look at the Batman Begins batsuit. It looks NOTHING like the original costume, but that film still made like, a gazillion bucks and is renound to have epicocity spilling from its every orifice, so don't go making any assumptions just yet. Oh, and films like Thor, Captain America, Iron Man, etc also spring to mind. The costumes were mocked at first (especially Thor), but they were good films!
Oh, and I looked at that clip on the viewtubes people are chatting about-it looks really fakey and not real (which is what films are about these days). So neurggh. Feel free to abuse me now.

@oli_huts: Original costumes only work for some comic book movies. Ala Spiderman, Fantastic Four, if they're not too over the top. How exactly would a grey and black, lycra-clad batman fit into Nolan's gritty real-world batman? Or a yellow and black striped Wolverine, with ear wings, look in X-Men? Or the original Optimus Prime!?

I posted this once before, but since I'm a nice guy, i'll do it again....

Clearly, this Dredd is being based off the early drawings of him:

[image]http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/5424/judgedredd05sy5.jpg[/image]

More 'Mad Max biker cop' than 'Rack of ribs and half a fried eagle on his shoulder' look.

Our friend Dreddhead123 obviously is oblivious to this incarnation of Dredd and probably thinks Stallone should be reprising the role.

The helmet does look a little strange, but the images of Dredd inside the mag have won me over. The uniform looks great.

Couldve probably cast someone with a better chin though... Aaron Eckheart would've been my choice.

The images inside are quality. Slightly off topic but I've got to say, I'm not convinced about the bike design I've seen, the handle bars seem too low and close to the riders body making him sit too upright, I think they should move them up so the rider is leaning forward more over where the gas tank usually is.

Any thoughts ?

These cover shots never look particularly good though. Too much lighting and too staged, and whats going on with his face?

I think this will look on film though, very much a throwback to the original artwork as has been noted.
Actually my only real problem is the gun, which looks a bit cheap and plastic like

I think simply having Dredd on the cover has taken everyone by surprise and the huge 'blockbuster' one character only usual stance being replaced with a smaller budget feature has got people's knickers in a twist.

Give this version a chance guys, okay the costume is ropey as f*ck but the other aspects of it may be spot on.

It certainly won't be hollywood 'glamour' like the '95 version was.

Absolutely. Much as I've pretty much given up on 'superhero movies', this could work. I always imagined a decent DREDD film to be effective if it were more in the vein of a 'Mad Max' film.

Glad I'm a subscriber. This is the first cover of Empire I'd actually be embarrassed to buy. I'd have to cover it up with copy of Razzle or something when I went to the till.

Seriously, was it take your kid to work day in the graphics department?
