Thank you, reviewer, for saying just how I feel, and highlighting just the moments and details which impress me most.

I was surprised I should be so moved. This is beyond my expectation of a film by the same studio, and I thought I knew their qualities pretty darn well.

But I think a lot of credit should also go to the composer, who is now a personal heroine.

Saw this at the Edinburgh film festival, I've reviewed it elsewhere on the forums.

Needless to say the reviewer is spot on - the observations he makes about scale and physics are brilliant, and it is just a well written review. My one quibble - this is clearly a five star film, one of Ghibli's absolute best. The best film of 2011 so far.

Just got back from watching this, IMO the best-scripted film Studio Ghibli has done in ages and is complemented by sometimes glorious visuals . A co-writing and planning credit for Hayao Miyazaki made me wish he'd directed the film himself (some of the insects were a bit cute for my liking and I have to say the Disney-esque English language theme song that periodically appears is a real misstep), but Hiromasa Yonebayashi has made a superb debut, doing particularly well with any of the scenes from Arrietty's perspective.

I've never been interested in The Borrowers before, but this is a brilliant adaptation that captures the magic of their world with a real sense of wonder. Genuinely worth a watch.

Visually stunning. Incredible detail; and a lot of thought has obviously gone into understanding the Borrowers' world.
A great parable of interventionalism and cultural responsibility that requires a little more mulling over.

Not sure whether they were deliberate or accidental references to other Ghibli films. (Ohmu, cats, crows, a skirt-twirl, a tree-top swoop, ??)
