I really am not one to review a review at all (I think those people are utter bottom feeders with too much spare time on their hands) BUT that said, Empire when it first launched claimed to be a massive fan of the big Hollywood blockbuster, I remember when ID4 came out and Empire loved it. How is that anymore style over content than the Transformers Movies?

I just feel their is a real sobbery evolving about these kinds of films that are basically young, dumb and full of boom.

Call me a selfish bastard, but I have days where I want a Summer Blockbuster to get my brain matter working a little (Inception, The Dark Knight etc) and I have days where I would quite like to go to the cinema after a few drinks with some mates and just have my eye balls blown out of my head without having to worry about plot or the script (the Transformers films for example).

Why can I not have both without people bitching about it?

You can. And�I have no doubt this film will make a shed load of money for exactly that reason.

To expect anything higher than a 2 star review though when it is not deserving is a different matter though.

Look I haven't even seen the film yet and if this film is the biggest bit of gash I have ever seen then fine I will happily criticise the film BUT people aren't criticising the film here, people are criticising the review (which I thought was as always very well written AND an opinion) and people are in turn counter criticisng 'dumb' movies and thats what grips my piss.

I will happily criticise a big, dumb, hollywood blockbuster if it really is appalling. The Green Lantern for example was so bad I wanted to pull my own eye balls out half way through and throw them at the projectionist BUT lets watch the film first before we criticise another movie for being 'too stupid' to watch which is essential what everyone is doing here.

All I am trying to say is that if a film has appalling acting, shitty plot etc but is really good fun and looks fantastic - whats the harm in that?!

I agree, people are seriously taking the piss with that...
Anyway for future reference empire should do something similar to what they do on DVD�S, something like: these views are expressed solely by the reviewer and may differ from the views of other members of the empire team and should be treated as one individuals opinion. Just tag that at the top of each review and if you still have people complain, round these buggers up and play A Beautiful Mind continuously � TRUST me it won�t be pleasant for them...

I have to say I haven't seen the second one. I do have the first on DVD and the other day I presented a few snippets to my unwell son in the hopes of cheering him up. Within two minutes of robot carnage he turned to me and said, very solemnly: "Daddy, this is rubbish." And this is coming from a three-year old whose favourite film of the moment revolves around talking insects. I actually feel a little embarassed to have it in my collection now. I'd forgotten how dull and sleazy it is, like an autophiliac's wet dream. Urgh.

I'm not going to whinge about Empire's review.
In all its awfulness, Transformers 2 taught me a valuable lesson in summer blockbuster movie appreciation.
There really is such a thing as too much action and too many explosions, even in OTT films such as this one

Before Transformers 2, I too was one of those fools that stated ''Awww, stop whinging, what do you expect from a film about robots punching eachother, Shakespeare?' And God Damn, sitting through that steaming, sandy explosion filled, piece of shit, really did make me see the error of my ways.

Now even though I'm pretty darned sure this new one will be a whole lot better, there's absolutely no point in moaning about this two star review until I've actually watched the thing.

BUT...its irrelevant what I've rated other movies compared to First Class (which is another average Marvel comic film with weak support characters, poor make-up FX, and lackluster action sequences as it recycles the same thing over from the previous 3 movies).

I didnt know First Class was the tent pole to compare films to....

I disagree entirely. My point was you'll probably like Transformers 3 if you like Green Lantern. And dislike First Class, you obviously have no taste.
