I like RvP, but I don't think he's the player that City should be looking for. He's 28 and I think they should be looking for players a few years younger. Plus he's had a horrendous series of injuries before this last season, feels to me like that's a risk. If he was available for around 10M, I'd say good shout but Arsenal sound like they want a lot more for a player in his last year and though money is no object to City I don't see the value in that deal.

Inter had a terrible season, so I'd say it would have been hard for anyone to shine. I seem to remember he was injured, but not heard too much of him this season. I expect that he burnt his bridges with Utd and just can't see how he'd fit into either City or Chelsea teams. No one else can get close to his wage demands.

Sneijder was injured for a lot of it, came back made the team worse, drifted out of the team they got better, returned to the team and they were pretty much the same.

The problem I've got with Sneijder is I don't think he's ever played deep enough to be truly dominant in a team. If Man U had signed him last summer it wouldn't have bothered me that much as he doesn't sit in the middle like what Man U need. He runs either side of the deep striker or main striker and he links up play quite high up the field but for some reason in a lot of the press he's been given the tag of a 'pull the strings' Xavi/Alonso/Modric type when he's not. Man City and Utd don't need him, Man U need someone deeper who will dictate the play, Man City need people on the wings.

Seems that way. I remember hitting the crossbar against us for Walsall the season before last where he was on loan at the time but that's about it. Mind you not many of us knew anything about Kermorgant or Pritchard before they showed up as well so with Powelly's current track record this could be another star in disguise...

Here are my thoughts coming into the 2013 season.

Arsenal
Should manage another top 3 finish. Wenger knows he needs that to keep the board happy. But he also needs a cup of some form to keep everyone else happy. Still some work to be done in the transfer market for them you suspect.

Villa
Will be interesting with a new manager. Under performers of late could move up the table if Bent stays fit and they can feed him.

Chelsea
Feels like they've spent a lot of money on players to create chances, but the question will be can they convert them? A terrible pre-season. Think this will be a season that starts and stalls with no big run to trouble the top of the table.

Everton
A lot of people expected Moyes to move on to a bigger role. That hasn't happened, so he'll have to try to work his magic at Everton again with all their limitations in place.

Fulham
Continues to be a great place for a manager imo. Not huge expectations, but money available. Jol should aim for a European finish.

Liverpool
Rodgers will take time to bed in. They need to score a few in the first 3 games or his tiki-taka style will become under pressure immediately and that's in no-one's benefit.

City
Clear favourites to win the league. Something being made out of their lack of action in the transfer market, but they've a great team and if Tevez beds back in and works with the rest of the team I think they could take the PL at a canter.

United
Their demise has been prematurely forecast many times, but I think a top 4 would be a result for this squad.

Newcastle
Had a great closed season to date by hanging on to players. Would love to see them with a good cup run and knocking on the top 4 door.

Norwich
Relegation fodder imo.

QPR
Wish they'd be relegation fodder, but too much money there. Mid-table security should be there for them.

Reading
Will struggle to stay up, I think this is a strong season

Southampton
Ditto

Stoke
Time for Pulis to show where he's taking this club. Might be as far as he can go. We'll all be looking forward to them playing West Ham on a cold and windy Wednesday

Swansea
Should have enough memory from Rodgers to stay up and who can't want Laudrup to do well?

Spurs
I have no time for AVB. I think this team will struggle to top 8.

WBA
Will be in a relegation struggle. I'd like to see Steve Clarke do well though.

West Ham
Should be fine, but not looking forward to Sam on our screens again.

Wigan
If they can carry the form from the end of last season forward they should manage to not be in a relegation fight in May for once.

prediction time, because the only source of comfort at the end of a season is looking at the miserable failure of those who got it wrong (who said Liverpool would finish second last season??). I'll go first -

1. City
2. Utd
3. Chelsea
4. Arsenal
5. Spurs
6. Newcastle

18. Southampton
19. Norwich
20. WBA

The gap between second and the rest shouldn't be as wide as last year, though I expect City to win the league more comfortably than last season - my positions for Chelsea/Arsenal are pretty much either-or and I think it'll only be a game or two that decides it (for the moment I'm being pessimistic and looking at all our important matches during our traditionally crap January period, though we surely can't start as badly as last year). To be honest, I completely expect my predictions to be entirely wrong because so many of the teams involved have had major changes over the summer (Spurs, Liverpool, Villa, Norwich, Swansea, WBA all with new managers, along with RDM's first full season at Chelsea). It's the hardest season to predict in a long time.

I'm gonna go:

1: City
2: Arsenal
3: United
4: Chelsea
5: Newcastle :)
6: Spurs

Can see Arsenal being a bit of a surprise, also don't see Chelsea being all that, I think they'll be exposed at the back with all their flair players up top and Spurs haven't got any strikers. The double Dembas to bang them in for us and get us back in the EL.

I agree, I was really impressed with Arsenal's surge to a top four place last year. They ain't gonna win anything of note but will comfortably make the top four.

I think it's a straight fight between Man U, Man City and Chelsea - I think Chelsea once the new squad beds down will kick arse.

Will be good intermittently, no top four finish - just not good enough to challenge for honours but should still have an impact on who wins the title when they come up against the main challengers.

Yeah definite favs, but Man U will be thereabouts - they always are.

United

I reckon they'll challenge again for the title - it's just in their mentality. I write them off every year and they suprise me every year. No chance in Europe though

QPR
Wish they'd be relegation fodder, but too much money there. Mid-table security should be there for them.

I quite like QPR - I hope they stick around.

Spurs
I have no time for AVB. I think this team will struggle to top 8.

I think they'll be top 6, they've still got a class team even with the blow of losing Modric.

Hmm, I notice no-one seems to rate Liverpool's chances of getting back into the top five. Don't get me wrong - I sincerely hope they have another mare (along with Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal ideally

) and I'm not convinced Rodgers is as great as everyone (well, mainly Rodgers) seems to think he is but they do have some handy players. Anyway, last season was so surprising I can't even begin to make predictions but I'm gonna go with United for the title. Just cos, well, it's what they do, isn't it?
