I'm surprised but can't say i blame him after having made so many of them in succession. It does seem a bit odd that he'd bail for the apparent final installment, especially as he's had such a big hand in getting the story and franchise to where it is today. Hopefully they can find someone good to take over. I say Renny Harlin, but then i recommend him for every job!

Hmm, I don't think so. Hey, about Werner Herzog?

So the studio wants Fast 7 filming THIS sumnmer for release next year eh? I enjoy these movies for what they are but they are in danger of pumping these out far too quickly. Two years is a pretty fast turnaround for any movie series but another Fast movie by this time next year? They really should slow down and space them out a bit or end the thing but i guess that wont happen as long as they make money.

As for replacing Lin, it doesnt really matter since these movies are hardly auteur driven and high art.Anyone like Simon West or someone who can mount a decent action scene or two without using shakeycam is all they need.

If they keep the quality up, why not? There are many great American TV shows that pump out many hours of excellent entertainment every year. You get ten hours of GAME OF THRONES every twelve months and nobody's worrying about it!

I'm another one who didn't think much of this series of films, but utterly LOVED number 5. I guess the real test will be how good number 6 is... if it lives up to the fifth one, then why not get another one in production as soon as possible? Hey, Vin Diesal gotta eat!

I heard a script is already done as there were initial plans to shoot 6 and 7 back to back, so all they need is to lock down the cast (who apart from The Rock and maybe Vin Diesel are hardly in high demand) and a solid action director. If anyone says Oliver Megatron I'll punch you right in the face.

I'm quite fearful that Rob Cohen will return. Fast 1 is an OK movie for it what it is but the CG augmentation he used for the racing scenes are terrible looking even for 2002. Also: the man is not a great action director.

I don't personally think replacing the likes of Lin is as easy as it sounds personally, the guy's shown a talent for directing large scale vehicular mayhem like few others, save for maybe Michael Bay.

Speaking of which, I'll get shot and chased out of the thread with cries of "fuck shaky-cam!" for suggesting such a thing, but a Bay directed Fast & Furious film would be utterly bonkers.

I think Lin has the upper hand over Bay in the sense that he knows how to cut and choreograph action. The last two Transformers films were terrible in that regard, and the final chase sequence in F5 is far superior to anything Bay has done in the last ten years. Also, Lin lacks Bay's detestable tendency towards sexism.

I disagree about Bay, I like his style, always have, but I also appreciate there's droves of people who don't so a debate is consequently pointless most of the time.

Much as I enjoyed Fast Five also, I'd personally rate the finale set-pieces from Transformers 1 & 3 above that car chase, but again, personal preference.

Michael Bay should be kept the fuck away from the Fast franchise.Lin proved that he can create exciting action sequences without '' fucking the frame '' as Bay continually does.

I think bringing back Rob Cohen wouldnt be a bad idea personally.I still think the first movie is the best in the series.

Fast 5 was awesome fun but dont forget he did two other FF films. Tokyo Drift is a bit crappy and F4 is the worst of the lot. He looks to have established a good formula though with the 6th, but I agree wholly Bay should be kept a million miles away. While FF hasnt avoided oogling hot girls in mini skirts Bay takes it so far it gets infuriating.

Anyway, James Wan has the job now.... What has he done other than Saw? No idea.

OMG that is awesome! I absolutely LOVE James Wan! Dead Silence is one of my favourite modern horrors, and Insidious and Death Sentence are fantastic.

Totally disagree, till F5 came out the fourth one was my favourite of the series. 2 Fast 2 Furious is by far the worst of the lot for me, it's probably one of the worst films I've seen to boot.

I disagree too, i really like part 4. I think my least favourite is Tokyo Drift. I really like 2 Fast 2 Furious.

Love how everyone has different favourites.

I think Fast Five is a hoot, the original and Tokyo Drift are ok and the rest are shite.

Fast Five is the best; Fast Four was fun and proof positive that the franchise needed Diesel back. Fast 1 is fine for what it is.

Fast 3 and Fast 2 are both pretty uninspired.

Michael Bay should be kept the fuck away from anything that remotely resembles a camera, including mobile phones.

But I have lots of love for Death Sentence, a great revenge thriller, big love for James Wan for that one.
