Nothing Was The Same - Drake

One of those examples of not particularly liking or supporting the dude making the music, but liking the music itself. His flow is improving with age too.

I'm new to this band but I'm really enjoying the fuck out of this album.

Saw them at Electric Picnic recently and really enjoyed them. Haven't had a chance to listen to the album yet though.

I'm listening to...

This is nice enough so far. I've heard a few comparisons to Mumford and sons who I really don't like so I'm surprised.

I concur.

Antics and Our Love to Admire are really good too, but the fourth LP was a bit dull and meandering.

See,I've never rated OLTA.
It's far to polished and a very mainstream sounding album.I actually prefer there last album to OLTA.
Antics on the other hand is a solid but unremarkable album.

Edit:I think it starts and stops with Turn On The Bright Lights in my view. Now don't get me wrong, they've got some great tracks spread out through there other albums such as C'Mere,Evil,Slow Hands,Pioneer to The Falls,Wrecking Ball,The Lighthouse,Lights (great live),Barricade,The Undoing, but I do think they have missed that edge and rawness that is was so evident in there debut release.

I'm being abit of a hardliner on this, especially as they're still one of my favorite bands today.

I know what you mean about OLTA being more polished, but personally I don't mind that. There's a lot of bite and piss and vinegar in songs like All Fired Up, Mammoth and Heinrich Maneuver, and No I in Threesome has a certain cheeky humor that's seldom heard in their lyrics.

After Antics, they were at a stage where they could've built on their success and turned in some generic stadium rock crap like Kings of Leon did, but I would actually rank OLTA as their second best album.

There's really nothing inherently wrong in making your music more slick and commercial. It really all depends on the quality of the songs and the musicianship.

I might give OLTA a listen later, haven't listened to it in aaages.

Oh,don't get me started on Kings Of Leon.
Two very good albums followed by rubbish commercial, generic kiddy fare.Uhh.

Edit: Paul Banks solo debut album was good, though I've heard indifferent reviews to his latest.

If I'm being honest I'd say all of the albums of theirs I have (TOTBL, OLTA, Antics, Interpol) all have great tracks and some poor ones on. In fact, I'd say they are an average band with the occasional flash of brilliance rather than a brilliant band with an occasional flash of averageness.

That's a fantastic album. Adore Japandroids!

Listening to Kvelertak - Meir at the moment. Only my second listen through, but this is probably my favourite metal album of the year. So, so good.
