I can't believe tripe like this gets greenlit. It will come out, then all the kids will think they're cool cos they've seen Akira and never heard of the original. Whenever a classic cult film gets remade, the original loses its pride in my opinion.

So whenever a remake emerges the original suddenly becomes worse? How ridiculous. Judging by your comments I'd say the opposite should be perceived and a remake should appear to make the original better.

First Seven Samurai and now this! Has the US got it in for Japan? First Hiroshima, then the earthquake (see Haarp) and now Akira! FFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts
And I looked and behold, a pale horse
And his name that sat on him was Death
And Hell followed with him.

Isn't he a little old to be a teenage biker gang leader?

Maybe they'll de-age him... or he'll be a middle-aged teenage biker gang leader...

Are we really talking about the same Kaneda? The same Akira?

The one with themes of self-isolation, power and corruption which can only really effectively told from the point of view of a young protagonist, coming from a place of powerlessness, innocence and having a sense of unity and 'family', albeit a disfunctional extended one (the gang)?

The same story told with middle-aged men as the protagonist(s) would be an entirely different animal,
losing most, if not all, its power.

Keanu fucking Reeves?

Wake me up. This dream is silly.
