Well lets just say, Hanna isn't perfect, its the story of a young girl named Hanna who has been trained by her father in the alaskan snowy forests to become a super-assassin and he soon sends her off into the world on a mission, that mission isn't very well explained, because her Papa (a grouchy eric Bana) sends her off and doesn't look back as he begins to be chased by the likes of a miscast Cate Blanchette as the villain Marrissa, and he doesn't really need to worry about the apparent bad-guy Tom Hollander, who doesn't really do or say much at all, oh-well. He meets his demise from a metal pole. Now the action in Hanna is great, a prime example being a very long take, where Eric Bana leaves an airport followed by Henchmen and he proceeds into an abandoned little train station and kills them off with knifes, guns and two hands, before walking off. The thing with Hanna is, its filmed very uniquely, not weird, but different, sometimes the takes are very short and sometimes very long. Hanna wasn't too long a film but at times it felt very long due to the involvment of a brittish family, and Hanna bonds with the daughter. This was a bad move involving this family because they slow down and drag down the film severely, if they hadn't been there, then Hanna would have got 4 stars. But the brittish family isn't all bad, the put upon Dad played by Jason Flemying appears for a few laughs, most notably when his wife asks "So Hanna what did your mother die off?" "Three Bullets." replies Hanna. Well Saoirse Ronan is a brilliant actress and she grasps the vibe of being both a dangerous killer aswell as being a vulnerable teen while sustaining a dramatic fluency to keep us gripped even as we suffer under the boredom of the introduction of the brittish family. Saoirse Ronan was brilliant as Hanna and she does everything from scene stealing to coming of age as she embraces her hormones and becomes a real kid. Actually that last part is bollocks Hanna is not a coming of age story but at times it masquearades as one. Cate Blancette may have been rather miscast but she is still quite a good villain, although she doesn't really do too much till the second half, she makes her mark on the film aswell as on the skulls of innocents who she shoots dead without remorse. Hanna may be a misunderstood teen but she does kill a lot of people yet we still feel pity for her and me myself, I was constantly rooting for the little kid as she was being chased quite often, that said the chase scenes were brilliant. Joe Wright deserves some credit for this, most definetely. During the glacial middle half though I wanted to switch the dvd off. But I didn't. The only thing about Hanna I didn't understand after the end credits was that she has lived in a forest for a long time and yet she can walk into an internet cafe and acess google? SAAAAAAAAAAAYWWWWWWHHHHHHAAAAAAT? The chase scenes were very good and I thurougly enjoyed this film but after the end I was left wanting more, more thrills and more action aswell as a longer run time and more Eric Bana and More Hanna! Well Hanna sure isn't normal, she kills people a lot of people and very well actually. At times to me it felt like a fairy tale was being mocked, and Hanna mocks fairy tales with a nod and a wink, well I'm sorry to say this wasn't a fairy tale, at times Hanna was very dark indeed. Joe Wright you've certainly pleased me, but not to the extent I had hoped. 8.5/10 Good watch, I recommend it.
