 Rather disappointed that the short-notice press conference on a matter of national security wasn't about an alien invasion (or least an asteroid). Bah.

interesting news though. utterly meaningless from a strategic/military perspective, but it's secured him that second term most likely.

 Turns out sending some badass special forces guys into Pakistan is a more effective way of killing Bin Laden that invading Iraq.

 Nothing more than a hollow PR victory for Obama. Bin Laden was never anything more than a  figurehead. Is the world suddenly a safer place? Nope. Are all the terrorists going to give up the ghost? Will they fuck. Can the forces be brought home from Afghanistan? Is radical Islamism defeated in one fell swoop? Not on your nelly.

I sort of agree with this. Yes, its great that he is dead but what exactly is it going to stop? If anything its going to cause more trouble with terrorists avenging his death and what not. Bin Laden became a myth character and for a long time people were wondering if he was actually alive. I looked at the news this morning and didn't find myself in any degree of shock, just went 'hmm'.

 Obviously this is good news, regardless of how much of an influence Goldstein - I mean Bin Laden - still had.

Still, I can't quite warm to the sights of street-parties celebrating his death.  Sort of echoes those who had a knees-up on Sept 11 (especially since one guy was holding the US flag the wrong way).  Would have been a moral victory if we ("the west") could have risen above that sort of thing.
