Not quite on the scale as some of the above (I'm a fan of HDR although I know it causes heated discussions in photography circles) but I did emit a wow when I saw this

I find this photo stunning. It practically makes me hyper-ventilate thinking about being that isolated. However, it probably loses some WOW factor for featuring on a Dido album cover!

Same thing happened to me when I played Neil Armstrong in Moonshot. They found me in an alley in Burbank trying to re-enter the earth's atmosphere in an old refrigerator box.

I have to admit, those shots do nothing for me... I don't find them 'enhanced' at all, but ruined, the last one in particular. However this is from a non-photographer's point of view.

I just think of that man on a big blue bouncy castle

I start to hyperventilate whilst watching the "Wonders" series and start to imagine earth just suspended in a whole lot of nothing and then start thinking what would happen if it fell. I stop thinking when I get to that part

You'll find that a lot of photopgrahers hate it as well. It is very much a divided creation. I kind of like them but I know people that wouldn't even entertain HDR even in its most subtle form

Without wishing to hijack the thread and turn it into a photography lesson but is HDR where the camera takes two or more shots (one over exposed and the other underexposed) and then combines them?

Yes (some photographers take up to seven shots of varying different exposures and merge). You can also just take one shot and make different exposure copies in specific HDR software and get the same effect.

I agree. I know absolutely nothing about HDR, or indeed photography in general (my skills end at taking pictures of people in front of famous landmarks - badly!), but the sky in that photo didn't look like that, which simply begs the question what's the point?

Get a paper bag ready. The Earth IS falling. All the planets,stars and galaxies are falling into troughs in the space/time fabric caused by gravity. Watch episode 3 of Wonders of the Universe.
