My top 20 in order of preference, after rethinking, Blonde On Blonde is the best. Sorry Rhubarb. BUT WHAT A LIST. Worthy winner as well, always nice to see the best band in the world on top. Will rank with favourite song.

Hmmm. Arcade Fire are really not all that great, but at least the list wasn't as predictable and safe as most lists. Some really great albums in the Top 10 there.

Shut it they are a brilliant band who reinvent the rock blue print with every Album, of couse they shouldn't have been number one, but for once believe the hype because they write timeless stories.

Nice to see The Long Blondes in there, SOTDYH is one of the great debuts of recent times, White Blood Cells should have come ahead of Elephant as that is the White Stripes most complete Rock Album, it is a true master piece. Heavy involvment from the Smiths, Radiohead and Bowie also good to see, think I would have had the Kick Inside from Kate Bush though. No Ladytron is a sad loss, Light and Magic is the greatest Album of the last Ten Years, if you can't shake your arse to that, then really what can you shake it to

I will definatly be entering next year!

Firstly, was this a voted for list? And if so, was it open only to art students? I mean, seriously, with that much Smiths, Dylan, Waits, Radiohead, Bowie and the like, I'm a little surprised that anyone made it through to view the final results. Nobody found in the tub halfway through?
3 Radiohead albums in the top 4 says more than any words I could write. Arcade Fire ARE a great outfit, but I can't really believe they have made the greatest album of all time. I remember Rubber Soul at 62 or something? Ho ho ho.
To me, the Arctics are one of the most imortant bands of this generation. The 2 most startling (and telling) facts of this list are that only their first album is listed at all, and most laughably, that Oasis' first album lags behind Morning Glory. Says it all really doesn't it?
Fuck it, let's put Coldplay on! Let's drink lager tops. Let's smoke Richmond. Let's do everything in moderation. Let's all listen to Wonderwall rather than Rock And Roll Star. God help us all if this is what it's come to................................

That's not trolling. It's stating a fact. I've been a member since the old forum so probably 2002. Everyone here seems to think that Radiohead are the best band ever. They're not. In fact, a lot of their stuff is rather trite. You can't even get the two Joy Division albums in order of greatness. Huge eras of music have been overlooked.

Radiohead albums are routinely voted high in these sort of polls though, it's hardly unique to Empire kidz trying to be hip. I have a book of the top 1001 albums published about 10 years ago (I think), and the top 10 places contain 4 Beatles albums and 3 Radiohead ones. Personally, I wouldn't vote an album from either band into my top 10, but I fully expect them to top polls regardless.

And if we're going to talk overrated, I personally think a sterling example is Joy Division...

And just to add something else, if there was only to be one Pavement album in there, it should have been Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain, although really there needed to be at least four in the overall list.

And no Sonic Youth, no Day Dream Nation, very sad.
