In brighter news, was really chuffed to see former F1 & Indycar driver Alex Zanardi win a gold medal today. Incredibly survived a horrific Champ Car smash 11 years ago and ended up having both legs amputated. Made an amazing recovery, pleased he has achieved in another sport.

Not seen much coverage of these Olympics, did catch some of the wheelchair rugby, GB put up a good effort against a strong U.S. team, was quite fun to watch. Hope to catch a bit more in the remaining days.

 I didn't even know he was in the Olympics and had retired from racing. He always did come across as a determined person though and its great to see him succeed in another area to become Olympic Champion - just show's you the power of the human spirit sometimes.

I really hate Channel4's coverage.

The advert breaks, for one thing, are so irritating - there's so many of them.

Then they manage to fill up the actual show talking about the bloody horse racing that starts after the Paralympics!

Not all the blame can rest with Channel 4. BBC put in a lower bid because they didn't expect there to be a great demand for the Paralympics. More fool them.

 Apparently West Ham have secured the Olympic Stadium (which I thought they had already done).

I kind of have mixed feelings on this one.
- On the one hand no body wants a white elephant of a massive athletics stadium that will never get used, so recycling it for football makes sense

- On the other hand its an absolute gift, WH are putting in £15M (up from 5) but the bulk of the cost to change the stadium is picked up by the govt and then they pay £2M a year in rent. This is surely a massive boost to the club that other teams on their level will not get and it appears unfair. I don't know what the fine print is, but I'd not at all be surprised if the stadium became sponsored for xM per year and they actually make a profit out of getting a shiny new place to play football and attract a bigger crowd.

......and they are renaming 2 stands - the Bobby Moore stand and the Sir Trevor Brooking stand

I don't know the fine details, I did hear something about them not being allowed to re-sell the stadium for 10 years, but I think it sucks. They've basically been "given" the stadium, as much as I agree with you we don't want a white elephant on our hands, but by the same token, I can't see it being anything other than a disaster being used once a fortnight to crowds of 30 thousand (assuming they stay in the Premiership)
I think the most annoying thing for me is it's West Ham. I don't like the owners (if I read the word "legacy" come out of Karren Brady's lips one more time I swear I'll explode - and as for the porn barons, what a pair of scumbags they are) I don't like the manager, and I don't really like the fans, having sat in with the home fans on more than one occasion (apologies to "nice" West Ham fans that may be offended)
