My turn! my turn!

10 best things from actual events
1. David Rudisha’s 800m WR – as pure an athletic feat as I’ve ever seen
2. Katie Taylor wins Gold for Ireland – couldn’t happen to a nicer girl
3. Overweight, stubbly Italian archer needs to hit bullseye to beat groomed US frat boys team – and does.
4. Ye Shiwen’s astonishing finish in the 400m medley – however she did it
5. Ivan Ukhov winning high jump, despite having to wear borrowed, flappy t-shirt at one point, and laying those drunken ghosts to rest in the process
6. Discus winner Harting ripping his shirt off and hurdling his way up the track in celebration.
7. Mo Farah’s face when he won both golds – pure joy in a single look
8. Felix Sanchez wins – and cries. And cries. And cries. Fair play.
9. Nicola Adams’ smile and the way she says 'oh yeah'.
10. The women’s beach volleyball, naturally – apparently they had some sort of scoring system in place.

5 best things related to the Olympics

1. The Olympic cauldron – very impressive
2. BBC’s 24 channel option – thank you, thank you, thank you
3. Michael Johnson and Ian Thorpe – showing how punditry should be done
4. Denise Lewis’ ass turned to the camera as she cheered on the British athletes from the BBC studio
5. A refreshing change to hear my kids shout at me for turning over the Olympic coverage, rather than Thomas the Tank Engine or Dora the feckin Explorer. Inspire a Generation, indeed.

7 most irritating things about the Olympics
1. Steve Redgrave turning up Zelig-like at everything
2. Team USA’s woeful tracksuits tops – flattered neither the men or women
3. Blaming those badminton players for not trying, instead of the organisers for not scheduling properly so that sort of thing couldn’t happen.
4. BBC NI’s Steven Watson’s obsession with telling the people of Norn Iron about the one NI player in the GB hockey team. Piss off, ye one-kidneyed arsehole!
5. The Spice Girls.
6. I didn't attend.
EDIT: 7. agreed - Jessie J.

When will they realise they can't replace Mercury?

They should have had May and Taylor playing live and then big screen footage and vocals from one of their concerts featuring Mercury.

It's like we had the winning lottery ticket and flushed it down the toilet. This ceremony is a crushing, embarrassing disappointment.

And we thought our opening was fucking nuts.

I'm feeling similar to Laz, where was Bowie or the Who.
The Stones, and Noel would have been better than Liam.
Plus they should have used the hologram program Snoop used for Tupac in order to have Freddy play with Queen one last time.

I think they thought getting the Spice Girls together was somehow a massive thing.

THis was basically a sub-par Brit awards.

We should thank our lucky stars Chumbawumba weren't invited.

Typical GB I suppose, amazing and then drop the baton on the final swap over.

That's what I thought was going to happen.

Lord knows why Tinie bloody Tempah had to be there. And the Lennon head was weird.

Isn't it traditional for him to declare them 'the greatest games ever'? I remember a fuss being made when he didn't say it after Atlanta.

I've probably shat my last ounce of credibility but I like this song.

You have to hand it to him, Barlow is a trooper.
