LA is known for harbouring famous people and pretty people, but here it harbours stupid looking robotic aliens and a bunch of (cliche.) mismatched raggle taggled soldiers on a desperate search and rescue mission. These uninteresting soldiers are led by Aaron Eckhart who despite the cliches sorrounding his character, (disgruntled sergeant with a dark past and a history of getting his men killed and making supposed, awesome speeches.) He does an ok job. We've seen this all before but this is a step up from the so bad its good Skyline, which had smoother effects but this is by far a better film with a small amount of the cast, you want to survive, well lets get some things straight, the soldiers are all walking cliches but Michael Pena and Michelle Rodriguez are likeable underwritten characters who thanks to the writers of this film are dead weight for the soldiers, and their involvment slows down the films fast pace. This is action packed and has almost as much explosions as a lone michael bay film but the sheer repetitivness of the films action sequences, drag Battle LA to the ground, Liebsman can make a film with decent action but he doesn't know how to end a film or involve us or the cast enough to keep us awake. Saying that while Eckhart made a speech I fell asleep (no joke.) but seeing extras getting crushed, shot or killed even all at once provides a suitable saturday/friday night action watch to see with your friends as you down beers and wonder why this film with huge potential ended up as such a mess, that said, this is worth a watch for fans of Michael Bay/action films, and I must say when the soldiers were getting killed, I couldn't give a fuck. I fell asleep twice in this film during a speech and during the alien operation scene, I give this an ok-ish 8.5/10 and a 3 stars, this my friend is worth a watch or a buy, but me, I'm going to watch TV until I can scrounge up enough money to buy this on DVD when it is cheap. BYE NOW.
