 The Avengers, new Bond, Man of Steel, The Dark Knight Rises, Star Trek XII, absolutely no problem at all, 2012 will make the most box office of all time IMO.

All these films are pretty prone to performing just decently or outright bombing in the BO, especially The Bourne Legacy, G.I Joe 2 and Battleship. I wouldn't bet my money on most of these just yet.

Plus anyone who reads a web story about Prometheus is going to know what it is because most stories start with or at some point include the phrase "Started life as an Alien prequel/s" "Contains Alien DNA" "Is part of the same universe" "Ridley Scott's return to the Alien universe" etc. Or stories about the cast (Noomi Rapace, Idris Elba, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron etc.) which are likely to include "Currently shooting/about to start Ridley Scott's Prometheus, a closely guarded film set in the Alien universe".

It's hardly a secret.

The reason for Spiderman is the same for Legacy, it's a risky early reboot released in a very busy time (TIH didn't do great either). Men In Black 3 is coming pretty late as well, I doubt many have interest for it. The last X-Men wasn't a big hit and Wolverine was quite lambasted in some areas, so I can't see The Wolverine doing amazingly. The others are coming out in a crowded season and don't have the public anticipation that the others have. I think you're underestimating the kid crowds when it comes to Spider-Man - they're going to want to watch it whether it's crap or not because it's a frickin' Spider-Man movie. A lot of them maybe won't have been born when the first film was out and were too young to remember the 2 and 3rd, it's only the adult fans that might take issue with the early reboot and let's be honest and admit that Spider-Man on screen is a very family friendly hero - I seriously doubt Sony will take a Dark Knight style route with this reboot that could potentially alienate the younger audiences. Whether it makes as much as the other 3 is debatable but it's going to be a massive worldwide hit regardless.

 That's all true, but it's also getting released in the same period of Brave, Ice Age 4, a Star Trek film and Jack the Giant Killer. I can see those films stripping it of some money.

The new Star Trek film won't be coming out next June, Universal haven't announced it and JJ Abrams seems to be dodging answering that question but all signs point to it being delayed til the end of the year or (hopefully) til Summer 2013.

Wolverine won't be out next year either. If a recent news story is true about Fox and Jackman wanting James Mangold to direct, and if he does sign on, they won't be filming til the end of this year. So i'd say that's another summer 2013 film.

Wolverine and Star Trek aside I see what you mean, it's going to be a big summer so it's got competition. I still think it's one of the most likely to succeed unless everyone's had superhero fatigue by then - however being Spidey I think the kids will lap it up anyway.

 Thought I should bump this - given what has happened this year with Paramount basically withdrawing from the blockbuster field, three massive flops (John Carter, Battleship and Total Recall) it has been an interesting summer so far.

Why would a Bourne movie fail?

And why would The Amazing Spider-Man, Men In Black 3, The Wolverine, John Carter of Mars, When Worlds Collide, The Lone Ranger, Star Wars 3D and Titanic 3D perform only decently or flop? They're guaranteed to be huge.

 I still think its a bit surprising that John Carter did die a death the way it did, I guess a combination of the loss of faith from the studio and the ridiculous year its in for blockbusters (two probably connected really) means that its forever Flash Gordon to Avatar's Star Wars really.

I was also thinking about this thread earlier and thinking, well nothing that major, Carter aside, has tanked but yeah there actually have been a few, I just forgot about stuff like Men in Black even coming out.
