Looks awesome...

Have you seen the re-edit of the trailer?

So you get to play as the characters you see eaten alive in the trailer. Sort of spoils the outcome, doesn't it?

Is that a fact?

It was an announcement trailer wasn't it? I imagine it was just to show you that the premise is an island full of zombies...I doubt you'll play as this family.

Although Dead Island is a story-based experience, it's built for co-operative play, and Deep Silver says up to four gamers can drop in and out of the game seamlessly. But if you don't want to play with friends, you can also play through the game alone.

How many Zombie games are out there? Off the top of my head I can only think of Dead Rising and Left 4 Dead

The big titles and current gen games only here, there are plenty from previous generations besides the few listed.

Resident Evil 0
Resident Evil
Resident Evil 2
Resident Evil 3
Resident Evil 4
Resident Evil 5
Resident Evil Code Veronica X
Resident Evil Umbrella Chonicles
Resident Evil Dark Chronicles
Dead Rising
Dead Rising 2
Dead Rising Case Zero
Dead Rising Case West
Left 4 Dead
Left 4 Dead 2
CoD WaW
CoD BLOPS
Blood Drive
Burn Zombie Burn
Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare
Plants vs Zombies (The best Zombie game)
Shellshock 2
Zombie Apocalypse
Borderlands: Dr Ned's Zombie Island
Dead Nation

I'd say theres a difference between a zombie game and a game with zombies in it. Im sure Scott was talking of current gen zombie horror type games so we have Resi, L4D and Dead Rising plus some worthy expansions.

The gameplay screenshots above would suggest you play as the eaten family. You didn't need to show them getting eaten to set the premise. It would be like showing the guys fron Gears of War getting blown up in the teaser trailer for GoW3.

Loving the trailer. That music is haunting. I'm assuming the piano piece would have been composed specifically for the trailer, but does anybody know where you could get it? It's a long shot I know!

You can't tell much from the trailer but I do like the novel idea of controlling time. It seems to work like Prince of Persia Sands of time where you can reverse the flow and sort of go backwards. Yup, looking forward to it.

Dead Rising and Dead Rising 2?

Got to say the more I think about this game, the more it just seems to be a first person version of the Dead Rising series.

That is quite possibly the greatest game trailer I've ever seen, absolutely fantastic.

Never played Dead Rising or Dead Rising 2
and Left 4 Dead was a major disappointment for me.
I remember on Resident Evil 2 that one of the unlockables was a weapon called Samurai Edge and wetting myself thinking it was going to be a cool sword only to find out it was a hand gun.

Purely judging from the above screens I posted, I can't help thinking this game will turn out like Saints Row and Just Cause - lots of nice ideas and moments of genius, but overall a highly flawed and merely above-average game. I'm going to stick my neck out now and say it'll score a Metacritic average in the 70's.

Another zombie game.

Someone should make a game based in a game developer's office because that would be THE ULTIMATE ZOMBIE GAME.

There should be more.

I'm with DC, like the WWII genre 5 or 6 years ago, Zombie games are now suffering from over kill. Admittedly this different approach looks interesting, but the game industry needs a new fad.

This. Bored with zombies now.

According to the IGN trailer breakdown you don't play as the family. I think it would have been quite good if you did.

Indeed. Doesn't alter the essential thrust of my statement, though, which is just a personal opinion and does not require validation from you. The trailer looks brilliant, granted, but once I noted it was about zombies I sighed inwardly. Still, maybe it'll be a great game, who knows? Just a little bored with zombies. That is all.

Hmm, didn't think the trailer was all that; Mass Effect 2, The Old Republic, DCU Online (although this was technically not a trailer), Black Ops, Journey and Dark Souls are all much better.

Anyone else think that in general video game trailers now shit all over film trailers?

EDIT: Also, the Gears of War 3 trailer and Halo Reach trailers were better than that too.

Ouch!

I thought we were on a discussion forum? Your point is fair enough, your bored of zombie games. You put it on here as a statement but the nature of forums is that people will offer responses. If your unhappy with that then don't post

Not really. Its all about the shared experience. Had a go with Dark Knight the other day after not playing for a while and its still top notch fun. There is some new DLC due after Portal 2 so we may see some more L4D nights on Empire.

Okay, I would like to apply the same rationale to your response to my original post, which was just an opinion which you were clearly unhappy about...and if you're unhappy with a differing opinion then don't post.

Don't get me wrong I love a good zombie - I'm a huge fan of the Res Evil series. The trailer was very impressive, but when I realised it was yet again about zombies I just felt myself thinking..."Really? Zombies? Again...?" It just took some of the edge off for me and lessened the impact of the trailer.
