Well considering "lesser" directors such as Mostow and McG have had a crack at the franchise with ok results Lin may surprise people. His back catalogue is hardly inspiring but even then he has a good eye for action so if he has a good script and cast assembled then maybe he could make a decent fist of it.

I'd be interested to see if any new films would be sequels to Salvation; I liked it and I think even haters have to admit it was at least no worse than T3 (which again was a pretty fun film). I mean let's be honest, without Jim Cameron the series is unlikely to reach the heights of the films made by the actual creator. I'd like it to be a sequel so Bale, Howard and especially Yelchin could return to their roles - I think they were let down by a weak script but are fine actors who could do more with better material. Yelchin in particular was great, channeling Michael Biehn without imitating him.

How about they use the original Salvation idea of Connor only being heard over the radio, but this time due to his recovery from the surgery.  Then have Yelchin as Kyle  heading up whatever main story arc they go for?

I don't think it's necessary to bring Arnie back. His presence didn't do much for T3 and his 'cameo' in T4 for was pointless (like the rest of the film). The main problem with T3 and Salvation, is the absence of Sarah Connor. Oh, how I miss the series....

As I've said in other threads, I think the film route should be left alone and a videogame route depicting the war should be the way forward.
While I wasn't, and still am not, against making more Terminator films, the last 2 are truly dire compared to T1 and T2. Great films often produce poor sequels. Poor films always produce even worse sequels. All the potential this once great franchise had has now been spoiled and I can't see anyone bringing it back to form. Not even Arnie himself.

Neill Blomkamp is the PERFECT choice to direct the next Terminator movie.

But then again also this! As shit as it has become (Still think Salvation had its moments mind) there’s always that nagging doubt there, could it be great again? Probably not no but if anyone could do it he’s your man. Was shouting his name for Terminator when Halo fell apart.

The Terminator series was killed because both John Brancato and Michael Ferris created the story. Their version of events is complete oppsoite to James Camerons and it was a micracle Johnathon Nolan was able to savage some Camron's Terminator out of it. We can;t forget Bale who also helped out or otherwise we would of had Marcus and Reese riding a HK Tank through a beach while human cyborgs are getting a sun tan. Yes skynet fuction is to provide Utopia for it many masters of humans........

Just reboot it.

Not because I wanna see a remake of The Terminator but because it's the only way out of the mess of sequels.

Salvation was an entertaining enough sci-fi actioner, if a follow up is as decent I'd welcome it. Wont be surprised if it the series gets even worse though, but anything half good after T3 is fine by me. Maybe they'll get their act together and finally film that damn laser war.

I still hate how sci-fi action movies no longer have laser guns.

Reboot, from Terminator 2.

With the use of time travel shanigans, wipe out T3 and Terminator: Salvation.

That's what they did with the rather good Sarah Connor Chronicles, only for it to be cancelled.  Bastards.

Why not just do Robocop vs Terminator?

(Baiting reaction)

Yeah, there was plenty of good stuff in that series that could be used in a quasi-reboot. Plus they could add Robocop!..

I heard it was because it was being run by 2 of the Major corps & 1 was getting the revenues from sales abroad which were going along nicely & the other got the US which wasn't doing well at all so they decided to pull the plug.
