How is it ruined?!?

Its blue and red....right? Like the Spidy costume?

If anything, it looks like they've taken a bit of inspiration from the House of M series costume:

house of M spidy
(sorry, cant get the image to work)

Everything I've seen so far makes me think this will be sticking much closer to the source than Raimi's versions did.

and seriously...get over the re boot. Comics get re-boots every 5 years or so, setting the story back etc. This is just the same. How long could the Raimi films go on? Do we really need to see middle age Peter dealing with a mortgage, having to buy a family car to get the kids to school....yawn fest.

I mean... IT DOESN'T EVEN LOOK LIKE HIS COSTUME!!!!!! Say what you like about the Raimi films, but the costume was spot-on to the comics. They've screwed the iconic costume up and rebooted a perfectly good series of films. This is gonna suck. This is gonna be 'Elektra' and 'Daredevil' all over again!

Im sorry but you see the costume and you know immediatly its spiderman!! how on earth doesn't it look like his costume?? I agree that they didnt really need to reboot the francise just fix what went wrong with no.3 but they have and im still gonna see it as its spiderman!!

Cool pose and a neat looking costume though I preferred the mask and web design of the old one. Still mixed feelings about this one though.

Costume looks ace.  Good call.

I'm not hugerly excited for this yet, but it's heading in the right direction.  Can't be any worse than 3.

I'm afraid you just sound like a Hollywood sucker here - the costume resembles the original with a kin to multiple spidey costumes of old (the ultimate spider-man series for one). Rami's take on Spider-man was some of the worst tripe I've ever sat through and hate those films with a passion because they are not the characters in the comic books at all - just Hollywood garbage with no passion. This reboot looks good and just what the doctor ordered if Garfield and Webb go and actually read some of the comics for inspiration (and perhaps that's what you should do and realise that Rami is the biggest hack since Zack Snider).

Get over yourselves. Really what is with people? Talk about judging a book by tiny 1 inch square snippet of it's cover.
Jeez...

LIKE!!!!

Also, despite what they say, they are all going to go see it anyway in the hope that they will hate it and can give out some more

Thank goodness for that. Someone on here who isn't a blithering idiot. You've almost restored my faith in humankind. Almost.

I just don't understand all the crying.

Look - even if some of you liked Spiderman 1 & 2 (I struggle to believe anyone liked 3)... they're not exactly masterpieces. No one is remaking Raging Bull here, or rebooting The Godfather, or cast Martin Lawrence as the new Keyser Soze.

They are rebooting an average film franchise and are doing so with a significantly better cast. Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone over Maguire and Dunst any day of the week.

As for all the weeping about the costume not being a perfect replica of the comics... guess what.... this is isn't a bloody comic. They are making a movie and that means that some things are going to change so that they're more cinematic. Don't like that? Well, don't watch the film and go and read the comics again.

Hope they bother to explain how he can knock out a proper costume this time, unlike in Rami's flick where he went from homemade party costume to catwalk suit without any dressmaking skills!

Although I had mixed feelings about Spider-man being rebooted, as it would have been nice to see if Raimi could redeem the misstep of Spider-man 3 with Spider-man 4, I do like the way it has been developing.
Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are perfectly cast. Maguire was fine but a bit too serious most of the time so if Webb can inject the classic Parker wit that was sadly missing from Raimi's films I am sold.

I am not completely sold on the new look costume however as I love the traditional look but it is slowly growing on me. I wasn't keen on the new bat suit in The Dark Knight until I saw it in action so I'm open to that being the case with this.

What I do find interesting about the costume is that, as some have mentioned, it does have a biker/sportswear look to it which makes me wonder if they are going to explain the costume as adapted sports gear. I have no problem with that. It would get around the problem of how Peter could fashion such a suit for himself on his tiny budget.

Also like the new title. I was disappointed when the film that was to be called The Amazing Spider-man was renamed Spider-man 2.

Who cares about the costume? The director, screenwriter, actors, cinematographer, editor and art director are all more important than the costume designer.

Reminds me a lot of when Peter Parker's clone Ben Reilly took over briefly as Spider-Man during the Clone Saga. Which for a penniless teenager is a bit far-fetched. At least Raimi had the decency to give him a shit costume first time out before EVENTUALLY developing his final suit. If this is supposed to be a reboot, then he must have taken a costume design course as well as science and engineering.

When they were making Raimi's first movie was the first Spiderman image released of him in the red hoodie, balaclava, jeans and goalie-gloves? Bet the fan boys loved that!!

C'mon like, you can judge the film from the costume design if you really want but trying to tell the story is just a bit much. And also the final costume in Raimi's film didn't look exactly cheap. I don't see how you can question a penniless high school student being able to acquire this costume and but accept he'd be able to construct/buy webslingers, I don't read the comics so I don't know how they come about but surely if he can get/make that quality of technology the costume is hardly out of the question

unless of course the costume in Raimi's films did change over time and the shit costume your referring to is the actual costume from the first . . . although either way my point stands

Just PLEASE have in come up with his own formula for the webbing! One of the great things about his story, is Parker is a great student, whose live gets interupted by being Spiderman.  If they are going back to him as a school boy, then this is essential for me.  Parker is a great science student, and it should be shown.

been a looooooooong time since i read any of the comics but if my memory is working.....

peter parker makes the webslinger thingy's seeing as he's pretty clued up on science, (its touched on in raimis is'nt it?)
think dr. connors helps out with it and seeing as he is the lizard who's the villain this time around , i guess thats that one case closed?

i think......

I wasn't keen on the new suit design at first (after all , it's barely changed in the comics for nearly forty years ) , but with that latest shot it's growing on me . And as for the title , brilliant ! Every new snippet , be it casting or whatever , seems to indicate that a lot of thought is going into this " reboot" ( hate that term ) , though a possible fly in the ointment is the idea of another origin story .

The suit design sucks. This, to answer those who ask why it matters, is worrying because it's change for the sake of change. The design they've gone with is NOT an improvement - there is no practical reason why he needs to have blue fingers instead of red, or a nearly-mankini instead of a belt, or a stupid red stripe down his leg (which they've carefully obscured in the official promo picture, but it's still there...), or a very aesthetically weak arm stripe...

It's concerning because it was a conscious decision to make this change in order to stamp their own vision on it - but it's not a good design they've settled on, so that raises worries about their decision making in other areas. Do they know what they're doing? Are they making other changes for the sake of change for the worse, not for better? It's too early to write it off on the basis of the costume design alone, of course, but on the only evidence we have to go on so far, it's a negative, not a positive.

The cynic in me thinks they probably need the change for the marketing prospects in terms of new toys etc.
