ORIGINAL: jerome maz I think it's a shame Empire and Mark Millar with his "Kapow" enterprise are bypassing the already established and very succesful London MCM Expo, which is held twice a year at ExCel London (www.londonexpo.com). It's a similar format to San Diego Comic Con, but with a bigger focus on games, anime and dealer stalls (probably because they have not been too successful pulling in starz and studios). It's great shopping for comics, DVDs, collectables etc. However, what it is missing is stars, directors and advance peeks at new films. I think part of the reason MCM Expo has not developed more along the lines of SDCC is that it doesn't get support from Empire or Total Film. Setting up your rival event will only prevent the UK and Europe from having its own complimentary event to SDCC, which could attract big names, great scoops and exclusives if only we all worked together. I understand that Bauer events want to own their own con, but I am sure the commercial team know as well as anyone in the con trade that these events rarely make a profit. I'd love to see Empire work with an established con rather than trying to compete. MovieCon is great, but it's small and intimate. Why not move it over to ExCel with MCM Expo? I went to an MCM Expo once and was left bitterly disappointed in it. Movie-Con was a different kettle of fish altogether and it became the highlight of my life to date. I find it horrendous. Unless you're into cosplay in a BIG way it's horrific. No, I want Empire to continue doing their own thing. If I want to meet big stars then I'll go to London Film and Comic Con for that.
