Quick heads up; those of you with a JP account (which should be everyone since they're free ), there are 9 dynamic themes, one for each covenant on the PSN- all free.

I stayed on the edge of the water near a rock in the center and dodged everything by running up and down the shoreline until one of the heads came down then chopped it up.

For the first Hydra I just used LoS and a good bow/arrow combination.

By the time I encountered the second Hydra I had better stats/weapons so I equipped the rusted iron ring (along normal movement in water/swamps/tar), dodged the attacks and cut the heads off one by one.

It gets easier once you cut off the first couple of heads, so there is an element of luck.  But on the approach take out all the crystal golems first, then use the cover to block his projectile attacks on your approach the Hydra.  Be careful not to get too close to the Hydra though as the Hydra is essentially floating on top of a bottomless pit.

I lost 12000 souls yesterday thanks to some prick. Im looking for to joining the darkmoon covenant when im finished and get some pay back...

After a long time trying (this really has been the hardest/most frustrating part of the game for me so far) I have finally made it down to the bonfire at the bottom of Blighttown (in the swamp). It appears that I now have 2 choices about where to go - either up the ramp, or into what I can only imagine may be a huge spiders nest across the swamp that is surrounded by giants.

Any advice is welcome, although needless to say, i will have to go into both at some stage. I love and hate this game. So frustrating, yet so rewarding.

Across the swamp.

Can't really say much else without spoiling you. Up the ramp will bring you back out quickly iirc.

Once you've made it to that bonfire the best thing to do is explore the swamp and pick up all the goodies, the bonfire is a good checkpoint for the swamp and you don't really have to worry about getting poisoned.

Some nice goodies indeed.  After only a few hours, I have fell in love with this game again. Just took down a certain boss (epic fights) with the help of an NPC and also a random that I invited in.

Have they altered the co-op play on this all with patches? Only reason I ask, becuase when I was playing when it first came out, I could never get any one to join my game, nor could I join any one elses and I understood there to be a level cap regards who you were able to summon - has this been removed? Becuase I was summoned earlier to help defeat the Witch Queen by someone that seemed to be hugely more powerful than me, but to my surpirse, he also had a weaker character with him.

Anyways, loving the co-op element today.

The online co-op aspect has so many different elements to take into consideration (e.g. membership of certain covenants increases likelihood of summoning/being summoned, where you put your soul stone, soul level) but I do think the latest patch has improved the match-making.  There is a formula, probably on one of the wikis, that states you can summon someone a certain number of levels above or below yourself- e.g. if you're level 50 you can summon people who are 40 to 60 (completely off the top of my head figures btw).  So there is an element of luck, especially with the shift to a more open world style than was the case in Demon's Souls.  Another thing you need to be aware of is that although some people are a lower level, they can be spending all their souls on upgrading armour/weapons whilst remaining at a low level.

OK - noob question time again.....

After killing Quelaag and opening up Sen's Fortress upstairs, how the hell do I get back up there? Do I have to go back the way I came, all through Blighttown or can I use the lift to the right of the bonfire? I have been this way and constantly find it blocked off right at the top by a wooden panel. Any I missing something simple?

You have to take the lift which is to the right of the bonfire.  It took me a while too, but after some exploring, there are some ladders that blend in well with the wooden structure, you come to the top of the platform.  You will find a chest with a key and that will open the ruins to New Londo- from there you can take the elevator back to Firelink shrine.  Aaaaand breathe   It's never simple in Dark souls

The lack of a short cut was killing me, but I just found it and I am now about to tackle the big bad. Once again, the short cut was staring me right in the face. This game requires constant concentration - all my deaths were own stupid fault - you think I would have learnt by now.

In other news - I have joined the Chaos Servant covenant as I fancy getting myself all the Pyro thingies...Only need to give over 30 humanity.

Said it before but being as I hadn't played this game in months, I consider the match-making for co-op hugely improved. Just summoned 2 kind peeps into my game, with no trouble at all and we proceeded to tear the Iron Giant/Golem a new one :)

EDIT:- Just reached Anor Londo - now THAT is a view

EDIT 2:- Just realised that I have 53912 souls on me - guess how much I am shitting myself about losing those beauties! Think that I am going to try and take down the demon from by Snuggly - the crow (and spend my souls) before going any further.

That Golem was a real pain in the arse.  I tried to melee him at first and he would keep hitting me off the platform   Co-op is so helpful cause one of the team-mates can draw his attention and then the others can hack away at his feet.

Indeed, Anor Londo is a rather gorgeous view   But it's just one of many breathtaking moments in the game, in fact I can think of at least three other such moments.  The scale and atmosphere is like nothing I've played- perhaps maybe God of War for scale (although I want to see how Skyrim compares in this department, I get the sense that Skyrim may be a case of quantity over quality, but I'll reserve judgement until I play it).

What level are you at the moment?  I would recommend upgrading weapons/armour and stocking up on equipment before levelling up as it will restrict your co-op opportunities if you spend all your points on ranking up too quickly.

Ok - allow me to go stat crazy for a moment with you... This will be my fourth character (played 3 others for total of 16 hours between them - get swapping until I found a character to play with, although I do intend to try some other builds later on) and I am level 54 having played 38 hours with him. I would describe myself as a STR/DEX build using Astora's Straight Sword +3 and Black Knight Shield (although I sometimes use the Black Knight Sword 2-handed if I am helping someone co-op) - I am also using a Longbow+10, which I am working my way to leveling all the way to +15 for the acheivement. My Estus Flask is +2 (just upgraded even though the Sunlight guy killed the woman at Firelink - Bastard, will not let him do that on the 2nd playthrough)

Here are my stats -

Level 54
Vitality = 21 (821)                       Attunement = 16 (4 slots)
Endurance = 18 (Stamina 106/Max Equip Load = 87.0 - although bear in mind that I wear Havel's Ring)
Strength = 25 (R Weapon 1 = 266 (Astora's Straight Sword+3))
Dexerity = 20 (R Weapon 2 = 207 (Longbow +10))
Resistance = 12
Intelligence = 11
Faith = 14

I am carring over 1500 arrows at the moment but I think I will need to stock on some firebombs and also either buy or grind some Purple Moss Clump. Gonna pop over to the woman in the tunnel and see what she is flogging them for. Doing a few Darkroot garden runs would not be a problem I suspect whilst I am wearing the Covetous Gold Serpent Ring that boost item discovery to 300

EDIT: - Another thing I will have to wait until New Game+ for is to be able to pick up the Lightening Spear dropped by the mimic chest - the bastard thing fell down the lift shaft whilst I was fighting it so it has gone this play through.

So are you going to specialise in Str or Dex?  I went the Dex route but I'm definitely going to make a Str build next time round as some of the weapon requirements are crazy  (50 Str ).  Notice you haven't spent many points on Int or Faith, you a pyromancer by any chance?   Btw, there is a good alternative to Havels Ring- Dark Wood Grain Ring.  I'm not sure where you are at so I'll put it in invisio text:

Basically if you are a member of the Forest Hunter Covenant, go to Shiva of the East and you will see an semi-invisible bodyguard behind him.  Kill him and he will drop this ring.  It is awesome- changes your roll animation to a quicker flip, also it lets you equip up to 50% of your max load and still move around freely as if you were only at 25% equip.

Going to have to be Strength methinks. And yes, pyromancer indeed! I am going for the acheivement on this play-thru, just need to get infected with an egg-head, get it cured and then gather 30 humanity (got 15 at the moment) for my covenant to unlock the last fire spell!

Quick question to the masses.

After a bit of research, I am pretty sure that I have the required stuff to create the rare weapon Quelaag's Furysword, probably up to +4 - maybe even +5 (need to check exactly how many Demon Titanite I have).

Any ideas or advice as to whether I should or not - I currently play with a one-handed sword/shield combo and my stats are on the previous page.

LOL, I have to say that was one of the most WTF?! moments I've had in a videogame.  I was just about to go and fight Ceaseless Discharge and my head exploded

Btw, Quelaag's Furysword is good, but you need humanity to make it really effective, plus as a Str build you probably want to go for axes and greatswords that benefit from the Str modifier.

As I say, i meant to do it so that I can get the spells from the egg guy underneath Quelaag's pit. Also, I have managed to scrape together 30 humanity and offer it up to Quelaag's sister so that she can grant me the spell Chaos Storm.

Thanks for the advice on the Furysword - I think I am going to do it, and use it whilst I get my Str up to be able to wield the greatswords effectively. Great thing is about this game that the possibilities of how to play it and what to play it with are seemingly endless.

Well, just found the giant blacksmith and he has kindly made me Quelaag's Furysword up to +5. The choice for the rest of the weapons is staggering now that I have got to the bloke who can really forge some decent stuff!

Also, having found the Black Iron Set and seen that I can buy Twinkling Titanite from the Giant Blacksmith, all I can say is that I will be wearing this bugger as soon as I can. +5 for all in time too.

Came out from a boss fight with 90000 souls last night. Yeah, fuck you Priscilla!

The elation can't be described.

Felt the same way when I summoned two dudes a few nights ago and we tore through loads and loads of bastards like a damn tornado. Thank you random two dudes.

This game is so amazing.
