Kelly Hu is pretty hot in the action stakes as evidenced in The Tournament, and she's always welcome!

It would be nice to have a woman in there who wasn't so bloody useless and didn't have to rely on a big strong man to save her.

I'm sorry, I know The Expendable was supposed be this testosterone driven action movie, but why make the only female character in the entire movie so bloody pathetic?

That was one of my beefs with The Expendables. That and it was dull as dishwater.

Wasn't Cynthia Rothrock an eighties action star? Pretty sure there were action movies back then that had some girls kicking ass.

I heard he was talking to Bolo Yeung of Enter the Dragon fame to appear in it.
I think the scene should have him sitting at a table and smiling casually and then suddenly he starts grimacing in agony and crying out-and they look under the table and there's John Saxon biting his leg.

The teaser poster for Expendables 2 is online

http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=77430

Here's the plot synopsis for it as well

The Expendables are back and this time it's personal! After Tool (Mickey Rourke), the heart and soul of the Expendables, is brutally murdered on a mission, his comrades swear to avenge him. They're not the only ones who want blood. Tool’s beautiful young and wild daughter Fiona embarks on her own revenge mission, complicating matters when she is captured and ransomed by a ruthless dictator plotting to destroy a resistance movement. Now Barney and the Expendables must risk everything to save her and humanity.

Her AND humanity? Wow!

Another damsel in distress eh? That's fine, however I was expecting a female Expendable.

My money is on Michelle Rodriguez to play Fiona.

Another dictator? Jesus.

I like the personal angle with Rourke going out even though I seem to remember him being retired in the first one so I don't think he'll be on an actual mission when he's killed, maybe it's a wrong place/wrong time situation.

Agree that having a chick in there kicking ass as well is a nice way to balance out the testosterone a bit. Could help with the witty banter too which is something that was sorely lacking from the first one, there were attempts but it was painfully unfunny. It would be funny if some of these posturing badasses start getting shy or maybe trying to watch their language or something with having a woman on the team.

Good shout on Rodriguez playing her although this sounds very much like a Zoe Saldana role as well...if only because she's cornering the modern market on ass kicking femmes and played a very similar role in The Losers (although with some different motivation). I'm trying to think of any female action stars that could do it, if they're playing Rourke's daughter don't forget they'll probably be in their 20s or 30s so someone like Rothrock would probably be aged out of the role. No reason she could feature elsewhere though.

Right! Simon West is helming the sequel. Good stuff. But when does filming actually begin?

Hmm, he hasn't made a decent film since Con Air imo (although The Mechanic is supposed to be a good effort) so that's a bit of mixed news. Still, at least things are underway.

Massive fan of Tomb Raider (the soundtrack and Jolie are perfect) and The General's Daughter and if he goes back to his stylish- Con Air way (something The Mechanic lacked IMO)...it'll deliver. Im a fan of his.

I'm yet to see THE MECHANIC (methinks a dvd double-bill with BLITZ is on the cards), but I'm confident West can deliver the goods.

Well, if this is accurate, it'll be good to see Sly reunited with his old LOCK UP compadre -

The guy looks like a scumbag(as he apparently is in real life) so he should make for a good villain.

I really hope Sizemore has cleaned up his act for good, to me he is still very underrated as an actor and i hope it will be a return to form for him

Sizemore hasn't worked in anything significant in ten years or more. Its unlikely a spot on Expendables 2 will change his career much.

Well, I always thought Sizemore was a pretty decent actor; did good work in the likes of TRUE ROMANCE, STRANGE DAYS, THE RELIC and of course, SAVING PRIVATE RYAN. I think he'd play a suitable baddie in EX II.  Now, I know it's been rumoured and even though he's now in his 70's (!), it'd be a dream come true if CHUCK NORRIS did even an Arnie style cameo.

I thought that Van Damme's involvement was set but it's still a 'rumour':
