I think he means more in terms of the 80's style action genre. The mano e mano type stuff that Sly and co did so well back in the day. I also wonder if he is also alluding to the CGI/Special Effects bonanza's we are now getting, where almost everything is green screened or added on later. I do think the more traditional type fisticuffs is becoming less and less. Although the Bourne movies and Jason Statham are certainly keeping the candle burning I think.

Why would they cut it to pieces? The first film was only trimmed by about two seconds to get a 15. This one'll probably get the same.

Nicolas Cage would probably do it (I understand he still has a massive tax bill to pay off), but Clint and Ford? Not so sure.

Indeed. The dvd is 15 and cut, the Blu Ray is an uncut 18. The BBFC didn't like the sadistic way the main hero killed a dude.....

Saw it tonight, this movie is brilliant, so much fun, loads of action and quite hilarious, dont wanna ruin but really enjoyed, if you love 80s action it really delivers. 8.5/10 for me, couldnt ask for more.

I mean we wanted something silly,full of in-jokes,Action nostalgia etc and Stallone and crew seem to have produced it.

Basically the style of the film is intentional.I feel some of the press have missed the joke.

Your 100% spot on, if your looking for story and character development then ya you'll miss the jokes, there are loads of one liners, appearances and action to entertain, i went to a preview showing with 8 of my mates and we all came out buzzing, no negative feedback, i didnt read empires full review before but i did read the verdict 2stars and i honestly think the reviewer missed the point of the movie, it was so much fun. Paid homage to 80s actioners brilliantly imo. But as i said each to their own.
