I'm sure there'll still be massive amounts of action but it won't be of the harder kind - there'll be no bone-snapping or blood spewing - no violence per se. Which is a real shame in my eyes. The director's cut will no doubt be a harder cut with added blood and possibly swearing........if Mr Norris approves.

I'm still gonna watch it regardless. Just 'cos it won't be as graphic as the first film doesn't necessarily rule out the possibility of a well-crafted action feature now does it?

Not in the slightest. The intensity of the action, particularly of the OTT variety, is far higher in PG13 movies these days than it used to be so I'd imagine this is still gonna be a visceral thrill-ride. I'm just a tad disappointed coz I love the snap of a good neck break or multiple squibs exploding as somebody gets mown down by machine gun fire. Hey, that's just what I'm into!

The main reason I love The Expendables (the ensemble aside) is because of the OTT violence. This is going to be a weak version of the original with this rating. Who the fuck does Chuck think he is, and why didn't Sly tell him to go and piss off?

This doesn't add up, surely Norris read the presumably swear word heavy script before signing on and then during filming has some kind of u-turn, I know scripts adjust in production but not to the point of excorsing the majority of bad words and less brutal action, which this film will be built around.

The main attraction for me was the violence and seeing my favourite action stars cause it. You got Sly, Dolph, JCVD, Willis, Arnie, Statham, Norris and the director of Con Air, you should be going balls-out to make the most badass, most hardcore action flick possible (like Rambo) but instead you play it safe and go against the very thing that made The Expendables appealing to alot of folks in the first place.

The bottom line here is money, as always. How much do you think it cost to get all these guys in the one flick? The studio is gonna want a serious return on their investment and have demanded a PG13 rating to guarantee as big an audience as possible. I'd love to see this as an 18 with some real hardcore action but I'm not gonna give it a miss on account of the rating. I'd imagine most fans of the first one will go and see this anyway so the studio sees the opportunity to add to that fanbase. Disappointing but inevitable. Look how the Die Hard & Lethal Weapon franchises softened their edges with each instalment - this is just the way it is unfortunately.

Snake, just wondering, and I must stress I'm not being a dick here, but would you have been so forgiving if say Prometheus was given a PG-13 rating?

Ok, fair enough, but I was just using it as an example that people have recently been discussing re: the rating issue.

Do people really think that Chuck Norris - star of Sidekicks and a bunch of other movies that made precisely zero box office - and his fear of dirty words is the reason this movie has been aiming for a PG-13? Isn't it more the case that the first movie was an unexpected hit, particularly on home video, and as a result the studio wanted to open up the theater doors as widely as they possibly could? That's just simple movie-making economics right there.

You could have a point - why exactly is a right-wing fruitcake has-been who's never hit for decades (or for that matter, ever been in a good film) getting the final say in the content of someone else's movie?
If true, then Sly's the pussy for not telling the beardy, weird-faced knacker to fuck right off.

Has there been an announcement on the Prometheus rating that I missed? I thought that it was still a very real possibility that Fox are angling for PG-13 on it.

Yup I thought they were aiming for PG-13. i.e. 15 rating over here.

While I dont love the Expendables, I thought the whole premise of the film was a throwback to the early actioners inclusive of all the violence and blood letting. Norris is some kind of idiot for this and so are the people involved who listened to him. They sold themselves out big time.

Well fuck fuckity fuck fuck fuck. This news has pissed me off to no end. The greatest thing about 80's action movies was the over the top action, shitloads of dumb fucks getting killed in horrible ways, big badass heros cracking wise after every kill, and best of all, a shitload of swearing. This was a huge part of it man, huge. I don't know which of you fuckers said it, but Die Hard and Lethal weapon suffered terribly after Riggs and Mc Clane gave up cussin. Honestly, this is really pissing me off. I'm calling you out Norris. You old Ginger bastard. I could kick your fucking ass for this.. Fuck.

If PG 13 in America means 15 over here then I see nothing to worry about. 30 Days of Night was a 15 over here and that film featured a scene in which someone's head is brutally hacked off with an axe.

Im actually looking more forward to GI:JOE:Retaliation now.At least that movie isnt pretending to be any more what it actually is.

Think il skip EX2 at the cinema in favour of an ''unrated'' cut on dvd. Then again,Mr Norris may nix that too the cunt.

30 Days was an R in the States. A PG13 doesn't automatically translate into a 12A over here.

Doesn't the decision to make The Expendables 2 a PG-13 lie solely with the producers?

I honestly doubt that Chuck has enough clout to force their hand in this kind of situation.

This!

Anyone who believes even for a second that Norris has the required clout or influence to pull something like this off is living on the same planet Chuck currently occupies, along with Gary Busey. Studio decision all the way, absolutely sweet fuck all to do with Norris's 'demands' I'll wager.

As for the decision itself, one of the very few pleasures I took from the not so great first film was the voilence, so naturally part of me thinks they've shot themselves in the foot here. On the other hand, I'd take a much better film with a PG-13 certificate over the original any day, even it that means the series is straying from the 80's throwbacks they were supposed to be. We'll see.

PG-13's are rarely 15's though, by and large it's a 12A 90% of the time, aside from the odd occasion where the content edges it just enough for the BBFC to get shiity, like Alien Vs Predator. 30 Days of Night was an R to begin with and arguably one of the most voilent films the BBFC has ever passed for a 15 certficate, Expendables 2 will be nothing of the sort.
