Heading to the midnight screening of Prometheus thurs night. Going to re-trace my steps and have a look at Ridley's Alien before I go. Looking forward to seeing what the space jockey is all about. All that marketing will sure help the movie's opening weekend.

New reviews up from Telegraph and Guardian.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2012/may/30/prometheus-review?newsfeed=true

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/film/filmreviews/9300098/Prometheus-first-screening-review.html

Sums up the mixed-positive response so far.

Two good reviews.
I've read some other reviews on various sites where, frankly, even the reviewers dont know how to justifey there likes and dislikes in the film.
As these two have said Prometheus just seems mental.

I'm not the exactly the biggest fan of Bradshaw's reviews. He does sometimes come out with shit like this that reeks of pretentiousness.

The great thing about Alien was it had no backstory, no character arcs. Everyone was just in the moment. Not sure where he is picking up all that other stuff from.

Yeah I'd agree with the comments about Bradshaw. However, I think it's a pretty decent review and if anything makes me more intrigued to see the film.

What the fuck is this guy on? He must've watched a different film to the one I know! Does he think wording like that makes him look more sophisticated or knowledgable? What a fucking turd of a critic!

I've been avoiding full reviews, opting for summaries where possible (one of which has still spoiled one thing for me), but given the mixed nature of the reviews so far, I can say one thing with absolute certainty - the review thread is going to off!

I reckon Empire should give it a really glowing write up and then two stars just to see the sh*t hit the fan in the review section!

I remember thinking that the first time I watched Alien.
My mate asked me what it was like, and I distinctly remember saying "satirically brillaint"

"Human agency is the capacity for human beings to make choices and to impose those choices on the world. It is normally contrasted to natural forces, which are causes involving only unthinking deterministic processes. In this respect, agency is subtly distinct from the concept of free will, the philosophical doctrine that our choices are not the product of causal chains, but are significantly free or undetermined. Human agency entails the claim that humans do in fact make decisions and enact them on the world. How humans come to make decisions, by free choice or other processes, is another big issue.

The capacity of a human to act as an agent is personal to that human, though considerations of the outcomes flowing from particular acts of human agency for us and others can then be thought to invest a moral component into a given situation wherein an agent has acted, and thus to involve moral agency. If a situation is the consequence of human decision making, persons may be under a duty to apply value judgments to the consequences of their decisions, and held to be responsible for those decisions. Human agency entitles the observer to ask should this have occurred? in a way that would be nonsensical in circumstances lacking human decisions-makers, for example, the impact of comet Shoemaker-Levy on Jupiter"

I always thought Alien was a film about a big scary Alien but maybe he has a point. Then again maybe he doesn't because I couldn't be bothered to read the definition.

Does anyone know when Empire's review is supposed to appear?

They already did that...albeit on a lesser scale. I have a copy of the 'Empire film bible' at home. In it they gave a glowing review for The Last of the Mohican's but only 2 bloody stars! Of course, it was just a mistake. (might I add, the first edition of said book is full of typing errors and rating cockup's!)

He's making some reference to the planets (LV426 and LV223). Maybe it's his way of saying he's confused? Will have to wait until Friday to hear his thoughts.

He did give a score at the end of the tweet though, 7/10.

Also Kim Newman is tweeting spoilers all over the place.

How unlike him...
If he's written the Empire review I'm going nowhere near it.

Some pretty epic spoilers in the Empire review, I read the first two then skipped the rest. Shame. Still, little surprised at 3 stars, but kind of glad it seems like an honest score and not a Ridley ass-kissing 4 or 5 that it may not deserve.

No Spoilers Here.

I loved it. Absolutely beautiful film, a work of art if you ask me but then expect nothing else from Ridley Scott. It was exactly the kind of film I was expecting. Fassbender is superb, it is suitably horrific in places and the final moments gave me goosebumps. There are a few problems; there's really no need to have so many background characters who rarely get a look in and some of the dialogue is clunky but that aside it was excellent. The 3D was beautiful, especially the extreme wide shots of Prometheus in space.

He did but he writes for The Guardian where they make you wear a Pretentious Twat cap.
