I'm not buying it. If it's a total reboot, then why word the title in a way that fits into the original series ie. using the "of the planet of the apes" suffix? The whole thing's just unnecessary and I know it's gonna do big business just because it's got WETA and Avatar on the poster.

But.....Apes taking out helicopters, no talking apes either and, what a surprise, a bio-experiment gone wrong? Not interested thanks, I'll stick to the originals which had their flaws, but at least had atmosphere and a point to them.

Caesar speaks.

I didn't think there was any speech. According to some folks that have seen the script, there's no speech, on the basis that the vocal chords are located further up in apes' throats (?)

Judging from the trailer, it looks like WETA have completely nailed it again. Man, those eyes are so human on Caesar - sends chills right down my spine.

I love the fact they treat Caesar as a human all his life and then stick him in a cage. No wonder he's pissed off. Also, the look on his face when he turns from Brian Cox's doctor is spine chilling. Hoping this is gonna rejuvenate one of my favourite sci-fi franchises.

This movie will be the critical and box office smash of 2011.The international trailer, in particular, is jaw dropping. It contains more raw emotion than most entire movies. This movie will be ground breaking and looks absolutely AMAZING!!!!!

Just on the basis of the new trailer...and the hope that something this summer will be good....
I have high hope for this one....
The start just needs to have enough drama and good acting to not bore us....then unleash hell....and give us an amazing ending....
and dont make it 3 hours long....and you will have a blockbuster in the making....and maybe a start to a new franchise.

The apes look fake from the trailer.Suspension of disbelief is one thing but how manyh apes are we supposed to believe are actually in San Francisco? Enough to overpower an armed police & military??

having now seen thre trailers and the CGI apes running riot, this looks, in terms of make up and design at least, to be a prequel of sorts to Burtons hopeless re-imagining.

Out of interest, from the trailer what makes this seem like it's going to be good?

I think this looks quite promising and of the trailer I would think the prologue and the entire back-story of Caesar from birth to incarceration "makes this seem like its going to be good."  There's at least an emotional intelligence suggested by the trails that this one is actually going to address what humanity means in the context of a sci-fi inter-species face-off.   I was taken with the bit where Franco assures the ape "No, you're not a pet."

It's only of anecdotal interest but this film comes out in a year where Project Nim also comes out.  A documentary about a chimp that learned sign language, and I think I'm right in saying the premise of that involves how it was raised from birth as a person and finally locked up as an animal.

So yeah, I'm looking forward to a blockbuster with brains and an emotional nous I suppose, and yes, I think the trailer looks really good. This is one summer actioner I'm actually tempted to see.

Fair play. We'll see I suppose, I'd argue about it looking like it's a 'blockbuster with brains', my earlier point about how many apes there can be in San Fran, let alone ones that could overcome armed police & military will take a massive maguffin/leap of imagination to overcome IMO.
Project Nim looks interesting though.

This thing about Ape numbers is really starting to grate on me.  Why do people keep going on about it?  It's not like this is the first film that has ever asked you to suspend your disbelief.  Also, seems clear from the trailer that Ceaser brains-up a load of apes in some sort of giant ape warehouse.

Maybe at the end he launches a nuke, who knows!

I think it looks awesome.  Really can't wait to see it.  I'm a sucker for all that mis-understood animal/robot/hulking-simpleton injustice payback that is obviously going to happen, from when Ceaser accidently hurts someone when they are poking that guy with Alzheimers.

I have a feeling this is going to be a MASSIVE flop.Nobody cares about the POTA franchise anymore, the 2001 film was so bad that people will be wary of this one, there are no real stars in this film, and the cgi apes look VERY dodgy.

The CGI apes look dodgy? Can you tell me a film where you've seen better CGI apes?

Even if the effects were cack, which they aren't, it's the story which interests me in this. Anyone not watching this because they didn't like Burton's effort is a total moron. They've nothing to do with each other. Plus there are no real stars? James Franco, Brian Cox an John Lithgow are crap are they?

I hadn't heard a thing about this film until I noticed the article in this month's Empire mag. I've watched the trailers and I'm quite interested in seeing it now. I've never got into the Planet of the Apes films (only ever watched the Burton remake) but I like the look of this. I tend to like origin stories and I like the fact that the motion capture technology has allowed the franchise to go from folks in chimp costumes to very convincing looking apes. Hopefully the rest of the film can match the effects!

I didn't say that. Darth Silas did. I'm an Apes freak. Just like you, by the sounds of it.

I'm very excited by this film, especially the new trailer where it shows Caesar living at home and 'thinking' he's human.

CG animals always look cack, i don't know why Hollywood is bothering./ If anyone thinks those FX in the trailer look real, then they've obviously never seen a real ape (chimp/ gorilla whatever) with their own eyes. The CG stands out a mile. Oh and I'd like to see how much box office draw John Lithgow has at the moment

For once,i agree with DK.Those fx look very cheesy and as for the cast being ''stars''.Brian Cox and John Lithgow are respected character actors but hardly box office draws, and as for Franco, hes best known now for looking like a stoned idiot at this years oscars

Watch S4 of Dexter. The best season yet, largely thanks to him.

Yeah, but to sell a movie? You don't exactly think "Oh, must go see that new Apes movie. John Lithgow's in it."
