Well done Rinc!

I went down today to support my mate who was running for a charity which let us all have a free buffet after it. They even cheered an applauded him when he entered the hotel.

Tempted to run the marathon - I might sign up to the ballot, but because I know I wont be able to run it next year, I could just defer.

After swearing blind to all and sundry that I would never run the London marathon, not interested, nosireee, not me, I'm tempted to enter the ballot just to see..................

A mate has entered the ballot 4 years running and never got a place so if I got one straight off I would be amazed!

I didn't take the day off after running the half as I thought if I laid around all day my legs would seize up, thought moving around (even if I did look strange getting up and sitting down ) would be better for me! Not sure after a marathon though, hope your kids look after you today and don't give you stick Rinc

Good work Rinc.

I'm actually quite tempted to enter the ballot for next year as well. I've always said I have no interest in a marathon but I'm swaying...

posted in wrong thread. I don't know why, but it keeps happening - and the thing is the statements that come out don't make sound mysterious, profound, windswept or interesting.

Just makes me look like a knob, which frankly, I don't need any help with.

Actually, looking at the small pic at the top of that article there's a guy in an orange vest with a name that looks like your real one on it!! Not you is it?

Here's a larger one on the main marathon story:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-17785660

This must have been taken after 15 miles. Before that I was running with friends or with a couple of random blokes and in the photo I'm not. Not sure where it was taken though.

Well done Dan keep it up. When I started running again 4 years ago after about 10 years of not doing much sport (plus a lot of boozing), it was really tough.

I've decided to enter the ballot for the London Marathon next week. I've changed my mind about having a year off a marathon, I really want to get a sub 4 hour one. If I don't get a place I don't know if I'll go in for another one though.

I need to enter it. Would be amazing if we all got in and got to race each other

Although, and anyone who has not got a place through the ballot before will understand, the moment you don't get a place can be quite a relief.

Marathon of the North today, it was bloody hard work. Finished in 4hours13mins 1second. I'm pleased with it, would've loved to break 4 hours but I knew at 21miles that was out the window coz I felt terrible and walk/jogged most of the last 6miles. Up until then I was doing fine,I got to 20miles in 3hours.

Bring on the next one

Wow well done, my half marathon time was 2hrs16seconds, and i dont think i could've done it again straight away!

I've just signed up for the Marwell Zoo 10k on the 20th, you run around the zoo for 1k and then 9 out on the hilly roads!
I'm going to head out to the local running club on thursday evening too, see what that's like.

I seem to be having fits and starts of going running/to the gym but not keeping it up consistently, i'll peruse a running mag and it'll motivate me for a week but then i rest and seem to forget about it. Maybe if i'm paying for a club i'll get more enthusiasm!
I've been in the work car more recently too, i've got to drive to Leeds tomorrow for work, it's a 4.5hr journey each way and i fear sitting on my ass for too long is making me more lazy!

Well done Ben!! Awesome time

I know what you mean GD about the fits and starts but am determined to get into some sort of regular routine. Want to settle in to 4 times a week (minimum 3). Did the Bushy parkrun on Sat and then a 11km yesterday.

Got the Bupa 10k a week on Sunday and current forecast is heavy rain! Too much to hope that it will be like yesterday...... Maybe it'll change between now and then though

Good work Ben.

I don't always enjoy my runs as I often feel heavy and leaden footed and it's a struggle to get round but I have to say I did a 9k yesterday and loved it. Glorious weather with just the right amount of wind and a decent but steady pace. Really enjoyed it. I'm now expecting my next 99 runs to be absolutely sh*te but that's the way it goes.

Good luck for Sunday Hobbsy

I got out for some runs this weekend in the nice weather and covered 7 and 9 k's which pumped me up for the weekend, so hopefully the weather holds out and i'll get a good time in.

Going for all-you-can-eat ribs tomorrow after work....so at least i'll have taken some protein....

So the spring races are starting then

Well done GD, that is one hilly course

Well done on the 14 min improvement MB!!

I have the Bupa 1000 this coming Sunday and looking at the weather, may need more fluid!

I have recently started trying out threshold training and had a really good session on Saturday. Had a bit of a revelation last week as I forgot to take my iPod to the running club so had to go without music for the first time ever and I must say, I really enjoyed it. It kinda made me focus on the breathing and form. So I decided that for my threshold runs I would forgo the music to be able to concentrate more and it worked on Saturday

Longer runs, definitely with music but I need to get used to without any way as the 2 half marathons at the latter part of the year operate a no music policy (although I'm sure some people do).

I've just started running again to get back in shape, but I have two queries- does anyone know where I can get one of those fancy gadgets that measure your heart rate, speed, distance etc. Also, I had the very unpleasant experience of swallowing a ?fly on my last run Any suggestions on this? Other than the obvious breathe through your nose

Swallowing flies is part of the journey SWOT (unless you want to run with a face mask). I must have swallowed a few last night

There is a vast range of HRM out there, depends on your budget. I currently use the Nike Sportswatch and before that the Garmin 310, both of which were around 150

The Nike+ app which is free (iPhone only) will measure pace and distance but can't do heart rate (yet).

I'm sure there are a lot cheaper gadgets out there that do all three, but I guess having the GPS is what bumps the price. You can get them from all specialist running shops, department stores that have sports sections or Amazon

http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=sr_nr_scat_461189031_ln?rh=n%3A461189031%2Ck%3Aheart+rate+watches&keywords=heart+rate+watches&ie=UTF8&qid=1337865906&scn=461189031&h=4154530574e3a3999e02fc17eb9fd4e5d28110f2

I use a Garmin 305, i got it from amazon for about 100 but it seems they've gone up in price since then.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_0_10?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=garmin+305&sprefix=Garmin+305%2Caps%2C311

It does distance, heart rate, avg pace, elevation and various other things
