Cheers Ben! Already signed up for a brand new one in Ealing in September and Run to the Beat in Oct. Although at this moment in time I can't imagine ever running again......

Got so much admiration for you guys that do a full one.

Did you defer your Great North run entry to this year?

I did defer it Ben then decided to do Run to the Beat as its easier to get to

Rinc, what's your number? Thinking of going down there this year to lend cheer seeing as I now know what it's like to do half of one

Unfortunately not. Just some really short shorts and my vest is likely to be a bright orange Sense one. My running number is 47088 and I have short light brown hair just in case you spot me.

I'll just cheer at the tv every time I see an orange top. One of them is bound to be you. The trainer from my gym is doing it too, he talked me into entering the one I'm doing and he is aiming for under 3hours. Sometimes I hate him

I managed 20 miles this morning, 4 weeks to go until the big day

I say "back," what I really mean is that it never left but it shrank to a manageable size, but has come back with a vengeance

You ready Rinc? Are you having a week of doing no running or just a few small runs?

I went out yesterday for the first time since my half. Been a bit demotivated since so it was a real struggle yesterday. Going to try and start doing threshold training to get me speed up a bit. Tried it yesterday and ended up walking a lot as not used to the faster running

I was convinced that I had done just over 5k and the time was 44 mins so was very down and thinking about giving it all up when I realised I was looking at the calories (516) field on the watch and not the distance and it was in fact just over 7k

Watching the Boston marathon (sky channel 433). 27degrees and the athletes are running 5-5:30 minute miles as if it's no effort

Erm... no!

My knee still feels dodgy and that's after not even running much for the last 6 weeks. I'm not too worried though. I've run it before so I know what to expect and my all round fitness and strength is so much better than 2 years ago. I've done less running but when I have run I haven't had to stop and walk and my times have been around 1 1/2 mins a mile quicker.

I'll do a couple of small runs this week but nothing too strenuous, mainly because I'm worried about my knee. The carb loading has begun though!

I just can't wait for this time next week when after a hard (and probably painful) day at work, I'll be able to have a few beers and a massive bag of crisps.

Hold on to that vision of a large beer and bag of crisps, it'll get you round on Sunday

Hope the knee's okay though!

I think I have been talked in to this, this evening at the running club

http://mhsurvival.co.uk/page63.asp

10k obstacle course in and around Battersea Power Station!

Your course is then littered with obstacles as you attempt to reach the finish line back in the event village, via a smorgasbord of jumps, crawls, dips, ducks and dives, plus immersion in water, ice, coal and sludge to name but a few!

That looks amazing. Funnily enough me and a mate have been talking about wanting to do an obstacle/army course. I'll speak to him tomorrow about it.

Obstacle courses are great especially to mix things up a bit when the runnings gettin a bit tiresome, did a 7.5k over here last yr. I met a friend I hadn't seen in ages out on the rip one Friday and we had a grand drunken conversation bout this Braveforce thing he was doing, next thing I know the phones out and I'm signed up and registered, curse them smartphones in the pub! Really enjoyed it tho, cargo nets ditches tunnels water jumps tyres hand ladders it had everything. Ended up 4th out of 250 was rightly chuffed with myself, can't wait to get at it again this yr

I was wondering if you guys could give me some advice (as someone who hasn't done any running since being forced to do cross country at school)? Are running apps worth checking out as a way of easing into it, and if so, are there any worth checking out over others? I fear if left to my own devices I'll just give up when I get even remotely tired

Yes, absolutely! I personally think the running apps are great and use them all the time for motivation. My favourite is the Nike+ app but I started running with the run 10k app (http://www.felttip.com/run10k/). They ease you in slowly and it's great to see your progress.

Assume you have an iPhone?

No actually, forgot to mention that I'm on Android. I had a quick look at the marketplace and frankly it's a little bit bewildering as there's so many, but I'll see if they've got the ones you mentioned.

Wasn't she just! She looked amazing as she crossed the line!

Rinc posted on Facebook to say he was 5 miles in to the marathon, getting his priorities right then . I was going to go up there but had a heavy night and haven't moved from the sofa since I got up, glad I got my run in yesterday!

Well done to any crazy bastards that 'want' to run a marathon!

I just a picture of myself looking suave at the 10k i did.

My girlfriend's done the Great South Run for the last few years but this year she's thinking about the Nike Run To The Beat. I'm sure i read some of you had done it. I might jump in on it too. Anyone doing it this year?

I tried to post a status before the marathon began but there was no signal! So what better way to spend a marathon than to post a status update.

Anyway, once again it was an incredible day. The atmosphere is so amazing. I ran it in 4.41 which I'm really pleased with considering my lack of running lately and thay my furthest run was 12 miles and that was 2 months ago. It's frustrating thinking of what time I could get if I wasn't injured. I can only put my time down to lots of gym work because two years ago I probably did the same amount of training but without the cardio and strength work in the gym.

Had a few moments where I thought 'fuck me I'm totally exhausted and can't run anymore' but after a bit fo walking they went away. And I went for it for the last mile and it was my second fastest time split. Good stuff!

I recommend the London Marathon to everyone, it's such an amazing day and despite the pain it really is worth it. I've celebrated with a pint down the pub then a massive amount of Doritos at home. Work tomorrow is going to be grim though.

Well done!!

I really do need to start doing strength and resistance work down the gym as I know it will help

On a sad note, I see that a 30 year old woman collapsed and died during the race

Well done Rinc. It looks like an great day when watching on the tv, the atmosphere at the mall must be amazing. Plus the relief that it's almost over by then.

The ballot for next years opens at the end of April, I think I'll have ago.

Just don't dream that you are a ghostbuster as you'll never be able to chase after a ghost in your state!

You're insane - I took the next day off because I had a film marathon let alone an actual exertion type one!

Congrats

Unfortunately being a teacher means I can't take time off. The 13 weeks holiday make up for it though!
