The large image tenstrings mentioned: http://yfrog.com/f/em5tvbj/ (click it to bigify)

I think he looks great, got a Riot Cop look going on. I can definetly imagine him beating the shit out of some unfortunate perps.

I do wish they could stick to the look of the comics Lawgiver though, I liked the little dial thing.

The changes to the Dredd uniform are unnecessary and a sign of arrogant stupidity. The original version of Dredd's uniform can work in live action:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=227D97ZmnmQ

Looks faithful and credible to me.

It's a great pity the people making this new Dredd film think they know better. They don't know better, far from it. Their uniform is a mishmash compromise - original 2000AD Dredd helmet, tiny shoulder pads and a Stallone Dredd badge. Talk about clueless. Plus, the character is known as Judge Dredd, not Dredd (on its own). It would show some respect if the producers actually used the full name in the film's title rather than dismissing it.

@dreddhead123

I hardly see it as 'arrogance'. What worked for a fan film probably wont work for a £40mil mainstream film.

They have to make this guy look real, make it seem like this could actually exist. walking around with a giant golden eagle on his shoulder probably wouldn't sit right with people not familiar with the character. Also, I can't find the image, but this looks like its being based off of early Dredd look, where he didnt have the massive shoulder pads.

No one seems to moan about Batman's costume looking nothing like the comics.

Any Dredd fan should just be happy that this is getting another shot at being a film and that it'll hopefully erase the memories of the 1995 one.

Original version vs new Urban version:

It looks a mess compared to the cleaner streamlined original version. If you want to make changes don't make it look worse! If they can't even get the uniform right what chance has the rest of the film got? This new look uniform is like the Alex Garland screenplay - uninspired.

Am I the only one who thinks his helmet is far to big for his head, i can hardly see his chin,

i thought so too at first, however the picture is pretty dark

Iv seen a number of brightened images (http://www.2000adonline.com/forum/index.php/topic,30965.msg562139.html#msg562139 ) which actually look a lot better

And remember this is a picture from a dress rehersal, hence the random office block background, and Urbans stubble

EDIT: Seems my link has gone been directed to another page now, oh well

God, not this guy again.

Dreddhead, you've made it abundantly clear that you aren't a fan of the new film. On several forums. Why are you determined to vent this opinion at every opportunity? Get a life man!

Anyway, I think it looks good. Like someone already said, it has its roots in the earlier Dredd strips, without the ridiculously huge eagle. I reckon the eagle will stilll appear as an inlay on the other shoulder pad but we'll wait and see. Carlos Ezquerra, the artist who created Dredd's look is happy with it and you can't ask for much more than that.

I'm sorry, but the version that you've linked to (that isn't Urban) looks ridiculous! Thanks God it isn't the "fans" making the decisions here, the legit one looks fine.

New version of uniform with reduced shoulder pads:

http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/4218/karlurbanisjudgedredd1.jpg

And this new verson compared to the original Judge Minty version as seen in the forthcoming fan film:

http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/8554/dreddmoonew1.jpg

I think either version would be ideal in a new Judge Dredd film. The smaller pads version on the left would be more compact and less bulky, perhaps, and be closer to the 'gritty realism' bollocks the producers spout.

By the way, the original Minty uniform with Urban's face is not my work. I just altered the image: he frown, the pads, the colour, and some other effects. Credit goes to the person for creating the original image you see on the right.

And the new movie version leaked by the artist Jock still looks terrible:

http://www.reverttosaved.com/junk/dredd-urban.jpg

What a messy thing it is! Ergh. His shoulder pads look anorexic. And what is that thing around Dredd's neck? The whole thing looks cheap. Judge Jumble Sale Dredd. The producers goofed. Oh well, better luck with Dredd 3!

This lunatic doesn't speak for most fans. He keeps popping up over on the 2000ad forum with different usernames and is swiftly banned. Is there a report button somewehere?

EDIT: Never mind. Found it.

Those images are undoubtedly the single worst pieces of Photoshop abuse I have ever seen.

Lets think practical here.

A Judge would have to be mobile and fast, those massive, metal shoulder pads would probably get more judges killed. They work fine in the comic, just like Batman wearing only lycra, but to make this shit work on film, changes need to be made.

People need to chill. Lets face it, Rob Schnieder hasn't been cast in this one, so already it's a step up from the '95 version.

Some breaking Dredd news. Due to pressure from the fans, the producers of the new film have modified the uniform:

I dunno about you lot, but I think it's a big improvement! Urban looks fantastic!

What other sites do is up to them - we only work to rule breaches on this site. Although we'd probably prefer the fanfiction/made up personal images links to stay in the appropriate place.

Also - please check the title before posting Dreddhead - you included a spam site in the title of your post by replying to a spammer.

Just seen the pic of the new Lawmaster...... I thought the uniform was disappointing to say the very least. Then saw the images claiming to show some Justice dept vehicles... not just disappointing but completely unforgivable unless its a part of some massive joke. And now the Lawmaster is revealed to be something similar to my grannys maxi moped. Is this film shaping up to be one massive turd or what?. I really hate it when a producer promises something faithful to the source material and then does exactly the opposite. I notice no film maker messing about too much with Marvel and DC characters to make them "sit right" so whey the need to mutilate Dredd? Is it because outsized regalia of authority is far less believeable than a silver dude with an intergalactic surfboard and therefore less worthy of any respect? It comes to something when a 20 minute fan film is shaping up to be better than a full size production.
