I think it was really only later you began to see much in the way of continuity though with Dr Who? If allowed, I'd certainly argue for Fang Rock being a one-off. There's another I'm struggling for the title of that felt like classic Hammer as well.

You'd get some earlier, but not to the extent of New-Who. I'm tempted to say yes to the more obviously horror influenced early Who. I'd love to include Blink as a stand-alone as well.

You were pretty much buggered by them bringing back the angels then

Otherwise, I'd have been right with you on that one.

Individual anthology epis will be difficult trying to remember them all for me - really just the mouthless kid is what tends to give me the heebie jeebies.

You know the idea of putting links up front in the first post?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_horror_films

here's Wiki's. I'd guess your history of horror would be a pretty useful help link too. Filmsite did one as well
http://www.filmsite.org/horrorfilms.html

http://www.imdb.com/chart/horror

If I extend it to Aliens, 3 & 4 are still out.

Actually, do you have the links to those lists online? They might be handy.

How about films where only one part might count? Like Ugestu Monogatari?

Btw, Miles, I double-checked your thread and everything you've reviewed is fine for this list, including Perfect Blue. I know there's some debate, but it classes as far as I'm concerned and it has been classed as a horror often enough in the past.

It says a lot about the standard of recent horrors when my first 50 additions are either foriegn based or pre noughties.......

Not even The Human Centipede make your list, Hughes?

Ok, individual early Who stories are ok, as are Sapphire & Steel. I've updated the first post to include films ruled in/out and ones I'm uncertain of as yet.

Slight issue with Wiki's list - someone's included The Godfather, Thomas Crown and several other highly questionable entries! It's also not great with some earlier British and supernatural stuff.

Assault on Precinct 13 - the way they do the kids running the siege. Horror?

Course Wiki rightly refers to Sophie's Choice as a horror.

I'm past 100 and I'm not out of the 80s (and I haven't added TV yet) for my long list. Long way to go to the inevitable inclusion of Dog Soldiers.

'course my longlist includes stuff like Lifeforce and Maximum Overdrive because they're so bad they're great fun.

Hurrah, another fan!

I'm guessing The Kingdom's second series ruled it out? Which is a pity.

You're just rude

Regarding Kingdom, they were edited together as individual films when released here, so I'd allow Kingdom and Kingdom II as two individual entries.

We shall agree to disagree on this one, but it shares more in common with Alien than Aliens (which also counts) - it is a slasher movie.

I don't think it really does count as a slasher structure in the way Alien played with. I'm neutral on its inclusion as a horror of it's own kind though.

I do actually like the third film, but its nowhere near the quality of the first two. But again, you make a good case of reason.......good luck with that one Rawls

Because it's basically a prison movie. Aliens is a huge move away from the horror of Alien, imo, and Alien3 is just too far and it starts to feel as if including films on the basis of the first one being a horror instead of what they actually are as films.

It is clearly a horror film. A creature picks off a group of people, one by one - that is what a slasher is.

In fact I think Alien 3 is commonly refered to as "gothic horror".
