Just caught up on Downton Abbey, heard that the actor who played Matthew wanted to leave and by the last 15 minutes it was obvious he was gonna snuff it but for fuck's sake... I really don't know where the series could go from here. The long-running story has been about the heir to Downton and the back and forth with Mary and Matthew and now after the happy ending of Series 3 where Matthew finally took his place, he's dead. I'm quite glad they got rid of that stupid maid as well, she just pissed me off and I've grown to like Branson as being part of the family so the threat of her undoing all the character arc of last series annoyed me even more. As others have said, nothing really happened besides Matthew's death. Maybe they should have left it at Series 3?

Well. I've just watched all three seasons in the last week and a half and I think I'm done. I couldn't believe they killed off sexy Sybil, but I gave them another chance and they kill off Matthew! Noooooooo........

Seriously though, I really enjoyed the first series. Thought it was excellent, the attention to detail, the acting, the quality, everything. The last two series have been a serious drop in quality compared to the first.

When they announced violent scenes of a disturbing nature I was thinking "what in Downton!"

I can see obviously why Anna doesn't want Bates to know but one of the male staff must be told and give him what for!!
Horrid man!!

Bold choice for the show. Very important they handle it well going forwards considering the rest of it is really so light and inconsequential. Froggat was excellent.

"Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, would you like to sing on our programme?"
"Oh, that would be lovely, yes."
"There's just one thing. We're going to be intercutting your singing with another scene..."
"...well, that sounds ok..."

I thought this last episode, and the series overall, was really very entertaining. While it struggled to balance giving all of the characters adequate screen time and some of the arcs feel half finished (maybe due to be resolved in the Must! See! Christmas Special!), most of the bigger threads did have really strong, effective endings. Definitely its strongest run since series 1.

Agreed. Certainly the best season since the first. Looking forward to the Christmas special, I'm guessing thats when Harold/Paul Giamatti turns up

I wonder what happened to Ediths fella.....

I'm seriously bored right now... unless the plot twist turns out to be Bates pushing Sherlock off the roof, I think this has been a pretty disappointing evening of Christmas telly.

Yeah, the first half really dragged on I agree, but I enjoyed the second quite a bit. And it ending with the staff all being happy by the seaside was warm and fuzzy and just a really nice ending really.

Didn't find the Chrisymas special at all entertaining in all honesty, nothing happened. At all.
