 There are some actors out there who really don't have any talent and are just good for one type of role and play that same character over and over, sometimes (very rarely) they will try a different type of role, but it just makes them seem worse.  And who is the worst actor for this?  Orlando Bloom?  Arnie?  Well, not in my eyes, I'd have to go for Ben Stiller, absolutley awful in everything and always more or less the same.  When you consider his most different roles are the likes of Dodgeball (he was just annoying in that and yeah I know he was meant to be but he was still terrible in it) and Zoolander, well, it just doesn't say much for him.

Bloom hasn't been in enough yet. And dodgy acting isn't the same as the same character?

As for Stiller - not a great fan, but the first time I saw him was probably in Zero Effect - which doesn't quite match the others.

 I would say Tom Cruise. I don't think it's always a bad thing but he does really similar roles. I've heard a rumor that he has a rage scene in every contac. ( Imean he wants a rage scene in every film) Looking at his pictures you could think that that's true. I still think it's a urban myth that you hear a lot (I mean a lot)

true, i think that when you go watch a movie with Tom Cruise you are generally watching Tom Cruise deal with a situation.

Attempting to have range doesn't automatically make you a good actor, and there's some great actors (especially of the supporting kind) who rarely stray far from their usual.  Sometimes it's a physical thing, not always to the Kenny Baker extremes but some people are just born to play a detective. It's a good thing that some know what they are good at and stick to it, especially with people like Arnie - even before he bacame a parody of himself, who wanted to see him stretch his acting muscles?

It's absolutely possible to be an excellent actor with a limited range for types of parts, if they are great at what they do that's enough.

Tom Cruise. I respect Tom Cruise because he has played at least 8 roles that no other actor could have played with a straight face. They are all the same: Days of Thunder, Cocktail, MI, MI:2, War of the Worlds, Top Gun, Jerry Maguire (Great film tho)...

I'm not the biggest fan, I don't rate him that highly as an actor but, he has taken on a variety of roles

You know when I saw the title of this thread he was the first person that came to mind. The only performance in which he was playing against type was Punch Drunk Love in which he was actually quite good in. But the rest of the time he is always the same guy,.

Totally. And he's always really irritating as well. I steer well clear of his films...

Another person who springs to mind is Owen Wilson. He always plays the funny, cheeky, ladies’ man.
Nothing against him though cos I absolutely adore him!

I agree that he is always a moronic mumbling idiot (save for Punch Drunk Love and Spanglish).  But I have nothing against him for doing "the same act" in every film.  It was afterall such a characters that made him popular and that allows him to command $20 million a picture.  So there is no way I can blame the guy for it.  In recent years he has done the few exceptions (and was actually quite good in them) and I think will continue to sprinkle in some quality films amongst his usual fare.

 Sean Connery ALWAYS plays a scottish guy even when he's supposed to be Russian (Hunt for the Red October), Spanish (Highlander) and of course Irish (The Untouchables- which I shouldn't criticise coz it's great) He's a god of the highest order but you'd think he might y'know...try.

 WOODY ALLEN always plays the exact same character,in the same city with the same type of score but looking like he does it would be hard not too, although i think he could be good in  some kind of creepy role
