Back to thread imagine Tom Selleck as Indiana Jones, how do you think that would've worked?

Gollum, must have been Gollum. I can only see Jackson wanting to cast him as someone batshit insane and he would have been far too young for Denethor.

Yeah the Jackman as Bond thing (while I think could have been good) was crap; Jackman admitted it himself at some point saying that rumours had started from him saying in some interview at the same time they were casting that he was interested in playing Bond as he loves the character.

EON and Campbell have never mentioned him as someone they had on their shortlists though so it isn't likely he turned anything down because he wasn't a screen testing contender.

It details all sorts of legendary projects (Batman, Verhoeven's Crusade, the various attempts at the LOTR films), I expect those of thee that like this thread will find it of interest. -

David Schwimmer was offered the part of Jay in MiB. That would have been...well...awful.

Jaoquin Phoenix turned down both American History X AND Boogie Nights lead roles.

and finally......

David Boreanaz turned down the lead role in batman Begins....I would of liked to see how that turned out.

(got that last one from an iffy website so not sure how true it is

)

Yeah I was quite pleased to see that reissued, as I never got hold of the original. It'll be interesting to see how many films have now actually been made in the intervening years.

Chris Cooper was Nolan's first choice as Jim Gordon in Batman Begins but turned it down. He'd have been quite interesting, but I think Oldman nailed it.

Oldman is/was perfect for that role.
Im not sure Cooper would have portrayed the same sort of sublety as Oldman portrays Gorden.
If you read Batman Year One then the choice of Oldman as Gorden is nigh on perfect.

Another I read about before was Gene Hackman being approached for Hannibal Lector. I think he would have been good but Hopkins has a more "gentlemanly" element that makes the character more disturbing.

Yeah, but it was felt that OJ wouldn't be believable as a killer........I'm saying nothing

I think it was Cameron who wanted Lance but Orion thought he wouldn't be believable either so Cameron cast him as a cop instead.

More than that, he was actively trying to develop a Silence film as a starring (and possibly) directorial vehicle for himself for a long time. I think there turned out to be some rights issue or he eventually just moved on.

I would have been interested to see him try it but I have a hard time seeing him in the role after Hopkins and Cox have both done great work with it.

Wasn't there rumours of him appearing in Ep1? I seem to remember him in the fake trailers for it. A Walken Sith Lord would've been worth the ticket price alone.

Glenn Danzig was in the frame for Wolverine in X-Men, but he turned down the chance to audition. That would have been interesting.
