I'm a big fan of the film, so it pains me to say that I don't consider any of the existing releases as "good". None are especially any better than adequate, so I'd recommend going for the cheapest one you can find. I have the Trilogy of the Dead boxset version, and a standalone release, as the TotD boxset version is the anniversary cut that featured new footage shot in the 90's. That version offers the best transfer, but the new footage is rubbish.

DO NOT buy the Special Edition DVD released by Contender. It's cut. I have the uncut version released by Cinema Club, which comes with a documentary called Reflections of the Living Dead.

The film itself is out of copyright due to a cock up in registering it, and can be downloaded from here:

There are a number of file types available, including those ready to be burned onto a DVD.

I have this version from the US. Good picture quality, decent extras and approved by Romero.

Hmmm...could someone tell me the best version of this on Blu Ray? There's like 10 versions (DVD) on Amazon!

Going to bump this - is the US DVD above still the only way to go or is the Optimum BD with the white label worth a look? Even more releases than ever now exist, and the claims on the Contender tin that it's been remastered are clearly nonsense.

Also is Dawn of the Dead available without all the stock music or did I imagine a version that uses all of Argento's score?
