How on earth could so many of you not want a sequel when the first film ended with such a big cliff hanger?

That would be like ending Lost with SPOILERS the hydrogen bomb going off SPOILERS or finishing the Star Wars saga with "Empire Strikes Back"!

Well it's not a cliffhanger; for all intents and purposes Kick Ass and Hit Girl's stories are resolved - they could be continued but the way they're left is also a natural resoltion. Red Mist and possible further "superheroes" are loose ends but there's no actual further story set up other than "Red Mist wants revenge" whereas Empire was a real cliffhanger because nothing got wrapped up and there were several plot points to follow.

Yes it's clear that the door has been left open for a sequel but read the comments on page 1 to see why some of us are against it; I still stand by the fact that it's a one off.

A Hit Girl spin off featuring new characters set in that world could be interesting but an actual sequel just sounds like cash in.

Seeing as it's not a studio film I doubt that; Universal distributed and marketed it but the film is an independent, financed by a number of sources after each studio turned down the project.

Admittedly I haven't listened to the commentary but maybe he was just talking about alternative endings he'd thought about with Goldman?

I think Hit Girl trying to avoid all the super hero stuff is going to be a big focus in the comic, but not sure how that would work in a film considering the differences to her back story between the first comic/film means the REASON for her avoiding it wouldn't really be around in a film adaptation. 

Interesting start to the comic anyway.

 I'm torn on this one. 

One, yes, Kick Ass is a blinding film - already in amongst my favourites - and it did end really nicely, but....

....the set-up for the sequel has all kinds of Harry Osborne/Spidey connotations, and it could be good if handled right.

I just don't know!

 Judging from Millar's version, it would appear Kick Ass and Hit Girl get embrolied in some form of 'Justice League' type scenario and we have a 'civil war' between the rise of the heroes inspired by Kick Ass.

For those who say there is no more room for parody in the sequel, that's just nonsense! The sequel judging from what Mark Millar has said will be about groups of superheroes and villains forming up and going against one another. The first film parodied individual superheroes with Kick Ass being at the centre as a sort of pisstake of Peter Parker, and Hit girl and Big Daddy were parodies of the Adam West Batman and Robin duo. The second film would be about Kick Ass forming a new superhero group with Hit Girl, and various characters will show up as quirky new "superhero" alteregos, who think they are awesome when they really aren't. This leaves room to parody all those famous superhero groups such as the justice league and Xmen, which wasn't really done in the first film. I don't know about you but Red Mist renaming himself "the Motherfucker" and calling his group of evil supervillains "the Cunts" sounds both hilarious and awesome! There is still much fun to be had with "Kick Ass", and they can continue the story whilst thrilling and making us laugh. Go on Millar and Vaughn, please make this happen!

Kick Ass ws one of my fav films last year but i'm unsure about a squel - like most things those, if done right it could eb excellent, done wrong and it will kill off some of what was speical about the film in the 1st place

 Vaughn isn't sure whether he wants to take this on after X-Men. Personally, the way the quality of his films are going, he'll get a 'larger' studio comic book film later on which to me will be a disapointment if he doesn't take on the kick ass sequel.

I have the same thought; really enjoy the first one but think it said all it needed to.

millar confirms 'balls to the wall' the basis for the sequel in this month's scifinow-

I think so, certainly if the film is made in the same vain as the first and the feel is the same, the JLA type elements to the story seem to a solid place to start and it should work in terms of having Chole Moretz that much older as well.
