The line which is the equivalent of the "fag burns" that alert you to reel changes (or ad breaks on TV) - once you notice them you ALWAYS notice them. Are you ready...? Cos this line, which appears in practically every film ever made, is the biggest ** SPOILER! ** of all... Still here...? OK, don't say I didn't warn you...












"Let's get out of here!"

(It does my head in.)

A line the ball-aching awfulness of which instantly recalls a gazillion sci-fi B-movies from the '50s where the buxom, lab-coated assistant (who is beautiful when she takes her glasses off - natch) solemnly asks the square-jawed boffin: "But Doctor - what is radiation...?"

I don't care if it's deliberately cheesy, it's still shit. And I'm probably the biggest prequels-apologist you're ever likely to meet.

Absolutely nothing wrong with that line. He's fucking with the other guy's head when he says it, it's a form of torture. In context, it is perfect.

 If you're going to pick dodgy dialogue from The Dark Knight Rises why not...

"So you came back to die with your city?"

"No. I came back to stop you"

Not the best come-back from Batman there.

 There's some right clunkers in Aliens but as they mainly come from characters who are suposed to be arseholes anyway (Hudson, Vasquez etc) I don't really mind them.

What's wrong with that line? It's sarcasm spoken by a dickhead. If it was a serious line and he was actually genuinely suggesting they build a fire, I'd agree with you

 Sarcastically or not it is still a rubbish line, imo.

But yes,Hudson is a pain in the backside in Aliens.Found him (for the first time) to be really annoying.

I'd be interested to know what other (f any) lines of dialogue from Science Fiction films particularly people can think of for this thread. Off the top of my head I can't think of any from Aliens (not biased I swear)

I'll ask the people down the pub tonight what lines they can think of

I don't remember the exact words but in Gone in 60 Seconds Nicholas Cages character asks Giovanni Ribiissis how he be able to pull off the massive theft, he replies with some awful crap. Awful film + scientologist = crap dialogue

I've had a read through the thread and can't believe how little there is from Pirates of the Caribbean.

The first film was watchable fun but contains some exchanges that really boil my piss for example:

Elizabeth: Parlay!
Ragetti: What?
Elizabeth: Parlay. I invoke the right of parlay. According to the Code of the brethren, set down by the pirates Morgan and Bartholomew , you have to take me to your Captain.

and

Jack Sparrow: [looking at all the swords] Who makes all these?
Will Turner: I do. And I practice with them three hours a day.
Jack Sparrow: You need to find yourself a girl, mate. Or perhaps the reason you practice three hours a day is that you already found one, and are otherwise incapable of wooing said strumpet. You're not a eunuch are you?
Will Turner: I practice three hours a day, so when I meet a pirate, I can kill it.

Note: the issues in the second come from the Orlando Bloom lines.

Oh God, yes. I couldn't believe it when I heard that, that's got to be the most banal exchange in cinema history.

Also, although I find these quite funny:

"I push one button and 38 agents are here before you have time to scratch your worthless balls." from Taken

"The bathtub, it just tried to eat Oscar! from Ghostbusters II

and, forgoing the obvious 'why don't I take you home and eat your pussy' line from Shark Attack 3: Megalodon, we have from the same film:

"And who would believe you? A disgruntled employee with stolen, confidential documents? My lawyers would have a field day with you! They are the REAL sharks! "

We could do a whole thread dedicated to atrocious Bond lines. the thing is not to take them seriously. We're talking about a franchise with characters with names like Plenty O'Tool and Pussy Galore.

It's not the worst but it does annoy me:
In Good Will Hunting when Damon and Williams first meet, Damon comments on the painting that Williams is one step from cutting his ear off, Williams replies with "Really, you think maybe I should move to the south of France, change my name to Vincent?"
It's just such a clumsy, paint by numbers line that has no place in what is otherwise a pretty snappy script.

I understand what you mean about the line but it was a battle of wits between the two. Will is trying to prove he is smart by alluding to Van Gogh but Sean is just that one step ahead of him, understanding the reference but upping it a bit by saying 'south of France' and Van Gogh's first name. I assume they used someone as well-known as Van Gogh so audience members could understand what was going on too.
