Christ, no thanks. Sony Ericsson, a company that hasn't released a desirable phone since 2005, meets the PSP Go? Not exactly a match made in heaven. Still, as there's been no announcement yet I guess we shouldn't make any judgements on this nebulous phone quite yet.

However thanks to Apples nutty DRM issues with iTunes I'll be stuck with an iPhone for life, but a buddy's got the WP7 (the HTC HD one) and the user interface is one of the best I've used on a phone, much more intuitive than Apple's offering.

Parachute panic is out now and it looks quality on my Omnia 7 - the AMOLED screen really shows some crisp looking graphics.

And its loaded with Achievements!

6 months to go on my current contract I'll definately be getting a WP7 device as soon as I can. Playing games and getting achievements while Im on the bus is too good to turn down. I looked at the HTC HD but Im sure I read somewhere that you cant play games or browse with the phone turned horizontal?

Hows the Mozart Bigs? Also any turn based games available and finally how much data are you working through a month?

Oh. All my phones end up in pub bogs. They tend to fall out of my torn pockets, where I've rummaged for shrapnel. This means I still use a burn-phone. Literally, sometimes.

As in crap or untrue? Its the WP7 that has the largest screen so was top of the list for me. Amma check.

Hey Borstal,

Sorry for the lateness of the reply - a few stints in hospital have reduced me to browsing these forums only!

WP7 is excellent - good choice. Its a refreshing change to Android and iOS etc. Its not perfect by any means and is missing alot of features but as a version 1.0 its bloody good.

I have an Omnia 7 - 4 inch AMOLED display - great phone. Pretty much all the phones are identical in terms of CPU etc. Id go for the 16gb HTC HD7 if you can get it. Im struggling with my 8gb Samsung.

The Mango update is not a new UI as such - its more features e.g. multitasking, performance increases etc. Its more of a WP7.1 and is a mixture between new features for devs and users.

When a WP7 app is done right they are exceptional - try the Cocktail Flow app for example! Beautiful!

Data usage is going to be whatever you make it. I am on T-mobile and have a 1gb usage limit and never go over about 400mb - heavy usage though for me as I have a Zune pass (also excellent) so I download & stream music on the go via Zune.

Special mention must go to the virtual keyboard on WP7 - it is without a doubt the best I have used. Bar none!

Oh and Plants VS Zombies has been released as todays Xbox live title. Twas Sonic The Hedgehog last week. Games are generally priced more than Android/iOS equivalents so be wary of that - though all of them come with a free trial.

Thanks Bigs. It appears Orange have stopped offering the HTC HD7 so Im left with 3 handsets to chose from. My contract is 20 p/m and I cant go much higher than that so any newer hansets due are probably out of the equation. That leaves the HTC Mozart, a LG one and your Samsung which is looking the best bet at the moment.

5th Aug cant come soon enough!

picked up my omnia 7 yesterday. what a great phone. the screen is simply amazing, so bright and clear. had much joy tinkering about with it right up until I tried synching and updating zune which bricked the phone. darn.

swapped over to a new handset and checking up on the zune thing before I do it again.

Heres what I think of my WP7

Good

One of the best displays on a phone Ive seen. It seriously kicks ass. super amoled or whatever its called is just amazingly bright and crisp. The interface is also excellent, smooth at all times and simple to use. iphone users at work have commented how good it is (not serious tech junkies I must add).

The main reason I got it was to play games and get achievements. Now other phone users will say they get their games free or for a minimal cost which I would prefer. However with it linking so smoothly to XBL I have no problem paying 2.29 for most games. I think I paid a bit more for PvZ but that was a one off. Ive never had a problem with any of the games Ive bought and so ultimately been really happy.

Shooting movies is fantastic. HD 720 just looks wonderful.

Calls, internet browsing etc all do their job as intended plus it has the best alarm ringtone Ive ever heard. I still don't hate it

Bad

I currently have an issue with bluetooth, it just doesnt seem to want to find devices. Im hoping the mango update will address this.

And speaking of updates....the first one I did completely bricked my phone (Samsung Omnia 7) . I managed to swap it for another one at an Orange store thankfully but havent updated it since for fear of it happening again. I'll see how mango rolls out and look for any issues.

Also the capture of photos isnt great which is really surprising after using the movie capture. I struggle to get sharp images even after adjusting the settings (which annoying default back after switching the camera off)

Overall Im so happy with the phone and am surprised more users haven't taken it up especially xbl junkies and achievement whores.

Interestingly Mr B - I am still waiting for T-Mobile to release the mango update.

Bit of background - Microsoft released set hardware specs/requirements for OEMs to adhere too for WP7. Everyone did...except Samsung who made slight alterations throughout the hardware. MS found this out when trying to roll out the 'NoDo' update a few months back - the update didnt work on Samsung phones too well.

Which explains why there is extra testing and a delayed rollout to UK Omnia 7's....

Bluetooth has never worked for file transfers as far as I know - as a version 1.0 of the OS it was only for pairing devices such as headset & speakers (so I believe).

I'm not too sure if Mango fixes that though.

I have the Omnia 7 too and it is a fantastic phone. I still think more people should check it out as the Windows OS's are starting to converge into a single (rather nice looking) UI (see windows 8 and the upcoming Xbox dashboard update).

Ive been reading through the Mango update and some of the issues I mentioned are being corrected. Camera settings can now be permanently set! HUZZAH!

Orange too are not getting the update as of yet for the Samsungs so I reckon we have a couple of weeks to wait yet.

I managed to survive the NoDo update without the phone bricking and have been playing around on Zune with my phone. How do you get videos from there to your Skydrive? I cant send them directly from the phone but cant see anything on Zune on how to send them.....or are they already on SD? I want to get them to youtube/facebook.

I'm due a phone upgrade in February and I'm hoping that there'll be a Nokia WP7 available by then. Preferably one with a QWERTY keyboard, if not then I'll shop around. I have no interest in an i-Phone, I don't mind Android (despite me having probably the shittest Android phone known to man) but I reckon my next phone will be a WP7.

I'll see what's available in February and take it from there.

I dont think Skydrive is integrated too much in the current build of WP7. It will be more integrated in Mango but whether that allows direct transfer to Skydrive I dont know.

Only thing I can suggest is sync your videos to your PC via Zune, which automatically stores the videos to 'My Videos'.

Then manually upload to Skydrive via a web browser.

Thats off the top of my head so apologies if its utter horseshit!

It looks like Nokia's first foray into the world of WP7 will be a modified version of the N9.

That's brilliant if it's true because to be honest I was really tempted to get the N9* anyway despite Nokia dropping MeeGo. So N9 + WP7 = colour me interested.

*I've always liked Nokia phones, from the 3210 to the N95 I can't think of a single complaint. The N97 was a bit shit though but it was their first attempt at a smart phone so I'll cut them some slack.

Well I got fed up of waiting for T-Mobile UK to release the Mango update and rebranded my Omnia 7 and forced the update via Zune.

Its bloody fantastic!

Newly integrated Twitter & LinkedIN in the contacts section works a charm.

The UI seems snappier and more responsive than ever - considering how good it was before this is better!

The Xbox Live hub has been refined and is much easier to use and now displays your avatar directly rather than a static image. The Xbox live extras app is only needed to change your avatar now...everything else can be done directly in the games hubs.

Loads of Apps are currently updating to support the extra features of Mango - such as the double sided live tile support.

Multitasking is included too - works like a charm. Simply hold the back button and all of the current running tasks are displayed to swipe and choose.

Love it!

Oh and the Official T-Mobile Mango update isnt due until November...
