Microsoft have just announced a ton of new games for its new WP7 platform due out towards the end of the year. It looks like its going to be a Mobile Arcade type platform and you can colour me impressed!

http://gizmodo.com/5614244/xbox-live-on-windows-phone-7-hands-on-and-first-impressions

http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/articles/111/1113334p1.html

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=260135

I am tempted to invest in this as it is a natural extension of the live platform - hopefully the strict hardware specs MS are rolling out with WP7 will avoid the fragmentation that Android faces in the gaming/performance arena.

I like the idea, and I'm thinking about replacing my N95, it's old now.

Wonder how much these are gonna go for.

Looked awful if I'm honest, that games page was massive and didn't fit on the screen, there was lots of text off to the right and even the word 'Games' didn't fit on the screen.

I think I'll stick to my iPhone.

After getting an Win 5 mobile several years ago when this was first promised I was disappointed nothing came of it.

I then got an HTC HD2 running WinMo 6.5 which despite initial promises MS announced would not be upgradable won Windows 7 because the it didn't have a hard button dedicated to Bing. (Despite it having enough hard buttons and a Windows button)

So MS can fuck off here. Next phone I get will be Android.

The thing about the 'Games' not fitting on the screen is to aid navigation, so as you're scrolling left to right you know when you're at the right-most screen when the 's' in Games is against the right hand edge of the screen. This is consistent throughout the Windows Phone 7 interface. I actually quite like it. It looks like a really nice slick interface. But I'm the same as DJ, MS can fuck off if they think I'm using one of their mobile platforms again. Once bitten, twice as shy. You already know of my Windows Mobile woes, so I'm happy with Android - despite the lack of games. That should improve in the near future with Froyo now allowing SD card storage for apps and the rumoured PSP/Android match-up.

Crikey - not a lot of love for MS here. Im looking at this from purely a gaming/Xbox live viewpoint and I think it looks great.

Off topic - I really like Windows Phone 7 and its Metro UI. Its a break form the norm and is very slick.

I appreciate alot of the hate MS get for Winmo 5+ but this is a radical departure from that platform.

I for one will be getting a WP7 handset and the xbox live integration is a big draw for me.

Sorry but that's got to be bull or the most hideous UI ever, look at the screen...

If you need the edge of text on the screen to see that there's another page that's just poor layout and design, scroll down, or have a button. The edge of the s not fitting is also poor and I'd hope it goes for a redesign before it's finalised.

That is literally some of the worst UI I have seen, I'm shocked to believe it's Microsoft made.

Well I dont think its going in for a redesign at this stage - but I like it at least

As for the games I think the potential is definitely there

If you have a button for 'Next Screen' for example then that just takes up screen space, which on a mobile touch sensitive device is at a premium as it is. Plus static pages with button prompts is a bit old hat nowadays. Plus, swiping a finger is much more intuitive and easy than pressing a button, especially for fatties with fat fingers. You can still scroll up and down (as shown in your image under 'Collection') and also left and right - kind of like a fancy GUI XMB. It's no different than scrolling through your home pages on your iPhone, except instead of the dots at the bottom of the screen the title of the section you're on (Games in this case) runs right across the top. I think it's quite a slick UI.

whilst I love the idea of XBL on my mobile and gaining achievements, I made the mistake of passing over the iPhone 3g f=in favour of the Samsung Omnia and hated using Windows Mobile on it. The whole thing was so user-unfriendly.

Am now using iPhone 4 and wouldnt go back.

In all fairness - I had a play with an Omnia when they were popular and it was indeed bloody awful. Win Phone 7 is so much different to that its not really a comparison at all.

Still I understand why Windows Mobile 5 - 6.1 is so hated. It was crowbarred into touch screen phones when it was not intended for them. Well resistive touchscreens with a stylus - not finger friendly at all.

The release of Halo Waypoint on WP7 will coincide nicely with the Halo Reach momentum.

Apparently Dell have stopped supporting WP7, before they'd even released a device for it.

http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/27/dell-dropping-windows-phone-7-devices-from-its-roadmap/

HP have also said they won't support WP7 either because of their recent acquisition of Palm they'll be using WebOS on their phones and tablets.

Finally did it a couple of days ago as my Sense screen just started crashing and I had to turn it off.

I should have done it a long time ago.

Taking this thread totally off topic - What Android apps do people recommend?

To be honest the Dell Lightning looked quality - but it only ever seemed to be a concept. Dell havent exactly set the mobile industry alight though have they? I have a Dell Streak and its a bit hit and miss! Besides the source is an 'analyst' of some sort. They arent exactly reliable are they - Im gonna wait until I hear more on this.

As long as HTC, Samsung and LG are on board then WP7 will be a success

http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/11/dell-venue-pro-gives-wp7-a-4-1-inch-qwerty-slider-with-lightning/

Also some of the games look really good. The Xbox Live integration is one reason Ill be getting a WP7 device

I took delivery of my windows phone 7 device today (Samsung Omnia 7) through T mobile.

I have a Dell Venue Pro on the way too.

Slightl off topic but Windows Phone 7 OS is an absolute joy to use and navigate. Its refreshingly simple yet fluid and slick looking.

The Xbox Live hub is fantastic - though there is a little update to download through the marketplace to provide the xbox live experience we are used to on our consoles (friends lists - achievements etc)

This being Xbox live its very refreshing to be able to download a trial version of the games unlike iOS and Android where devs have to provide a 'lite' version. (Im not sure if Gamecentre changes this for iOS)

I purchased Rocket Riot first and it is a manic game. Very fluid and fast to load. One criticism I have is that some of the premium games are highly proced at £5.49.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jc-_HMvvd4I&feature=player_embedded

I unlocked a few achievements through this game and after an hour or so my 360 profile updated to display the Arcade title in my game library.

Awesome game!

Not been on these here forums for a while - still recovering from surgery.

Borstal - there are 23 Xbox live games out currently (with cheevies etc) and a shitload of other games (non xbox live)

Loads to choose from and they are very good.

Windows Phone 7 is excellent

Crackdown 2: Project Sunburst is out now on WP7

http://wmpoweruser.com/game-review-project-sunburst/

It is actually very good - although alot of the excellent Microsoft games seems to be a tad unstable

Does anyone else actually have a Windows Phone 7 device? lol

Xbox live gaming on the go is quality and WP7 is spot on and would surprise a lot of people

Some good games have been released for WP7 on Xbox live so far.

Ilomilo is one of them and is very close to its XBLA counterpart. Its a great game

http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/Windows+Phone+7/ilomilo/review.asp?c=26507

Well worth a punt!

And its good to see glitched achievements have made there way over to WP7 too
